    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I have two segments on the Crescent in late June and 1 July. I assume summer for Crescent dinner is 2 July. :)

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

No dining car back as of last weekend and I don't think June 9 will be the case either, but I have heard of summer as a rumor on this board. I did a search on Google Maps. I noticed what I assume is a micro brewery a few blocks away, a Mexican place and everyone's favorite from my hometown of...

    Greensboro Depot

I am not sure if Greensboro is advertising this around the area. If could bring in some on the train. That is not a bad idea. And I don't mind it being downtown. Just not here.

Length of train and sleeper car numbers

18 cars not counting the engines would be about 1500 feet long and the Charlotte platform as measured on Google Earth is about 1500 feet long. Coincidence, I think not. As I continue to work, slowly, measuring all the platforms it will be interesting to see if any existing platforms from...

    Greensboro Depot

And I am not opposed to having this downtown (I appreciate getting people downtown), but we have a bunch of parking decks that are flat on the top floor and our new performing arts center has a huge parking lot that, even if used for an evening performance could be used for pickleball during the...

    Greensboro Depot

So the reason I had to fire off a missive to the Greensboro City Council. There is to be a pickleball tournament at the Depot and that is going to take over just about all the parking and make use of the front door drop off impossible to use based on the map. They are offering some free...

Length of train and sleeper car numbers

At this point YouTubers or not, we have to take our meals in the rooms. I have had some very nice interactions years ago and hate that can't happen now. It is nice to have an option but right now we don't have that either. So back to the other question-How long was the Crescent decades ago?

Length of train and sleeper car numbers

Thanks for digging up that old thread from 14 years ago. One of the things about an older message board is the history it contains. Without a dinner on the Crescent I feel like we are trying to now do math that is akin to dividing by zero. Another reason and maybe the most important reason...

    Greensboro Depot

I have need to write my city council about the Greensboro train station, which is owned by the city of Greensboro. I was looking at the map of the districts and the Depot is split between the district 2 which contains the Carolinian/Piedmont platform and the station building proper and the...

Length of train and sleeper car numbers

I had a chance to grab a video of the Crescent 20 at the platform this morning. Two engines, 3 coach class cars, cafe, sleeper 2010, then sleeper 2011 then bag dorm 2012. Car 2012 would imply 12 cars on the train, including the engines in the count. Amtrak is jumping from car 7 to car 10 now...

    Greensboro Depot

There was a fire in the 1899 Depot after the new station we use now opened. They took out the top floor and had no reason to build it back as it was office space for the Southern RR at that point. I think I read dispatchers left in 2012 or something like that. I am not sure if a new 3rd floor...

You did. The artist renderings are of Denver it seems. Denver seems to be the city Greensboro is modeling plans after.

    Greensboro Depot

Arcadia Publishing has a book out since Oct 2023 about the construction of the Greensboro Depot. It has lots of pictures and some text, but mostly pictures. It is worth the cost if you like this sort of thing. One author is a member of the Greensboro NRHS I do believe. I am not a NHRS member...

    Greensboro Depot

Downtown Greensboro gave a presentation earlier in the month and I found it on the web. Starting on slide 34 and going through slide 79 are the slides about the Depot. I would love to see some food options at the station. But I also have some serious concerns about some of the ideas as...

    Greensboro security changes

We are getting a bit away from Amtrak but this is directly impacting Greensboro so hopefully we can keep the discussion close enough to the topic at hand.. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest showed how bad institutionalized care was decades ago. We don't need that but we do need something in...

    Greensboro security changes

I don't really have a problem with making the station only for passengers or those waiting with or for someone. Both of what you mention are clearly things no one wants to deal with, and the restrooms upstairs are unlocked. I am willing to bet a trip in a sleeper that both of the incidents...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

I think in my state the APR is around 29%. I always pay in full but yikes that is some loan sharking there for those that can't pay in full each month. I received the USPS mail notice as well but I am pretty sure it is 28.45% or 29.45%.
