    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Everyone seems so fixated on the fact the Superliners were on their sides. There embankments on either side of the right of way. A car traveling straight on rails, and then no rails will follow the terrain, hence why they are on their side. At 90 mph, this could have been much much worse...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Superliners actually have very low center of gravities. They connect to the trucks at wheel axle level.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

The SWC hits 90 in Arizona too and I bet there are more gates like this on this busy route that see 60-80 freight trains a day many doing 70 mph. It would be nice if all of the US would be grade free like most of the NEC.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

We have seen Genesis locomotives hit heavy vehicles and rise up to fortunately come down on the tracks. The Heartland Flyer video and Texas Eagle in Cleburne as two recent events. I wonder if this had been a Z train hitting this with their heavy GEs locomotives would the result been the same?

Brigthtline is a perfect example, no they don't sadly.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Low level or bi level, going from 90 to 0 in an 1/8 mile, would have ended up in that ditch. I remember back in the 80s, the STL-CHI State House with an F40 and 4 amfleets hit a dump truck at 79. The locomotive was upright but three of four Amfleets ended up on their sides.

    Texas High Speed Rail

This explains where the project is now. "Because, as we’ve previously noted, this is a badly needed win for the beleaguered company. Although Texas Central representatives insist everything is just fine in the past few months it has come out that Texas Central has failed to pay property taxes...

    Texas High Speed Rail

I have followed this project very closely really hoping it would come to fruition. Having lived through the DFW-Houston HSR project in the 90s that was killed by SWA. This time around SWA gave the project its blessing and the Governor got behind the project. A nice website and fancy plans to...

    Texas High Speed Rail

    1. CAHSR is your standard bearer for a High Speed Rail project? Liberal Californians have cooled on the project and they are footing the bill. 2. Shocked, really shocked they won the Texas Supreme Court ruling, but it may be a moot point anyway. Time for Texas Central to show the money. Wasn't...

Handling of misconnect from Sunset Limited to Texas Eagle at San Antonio

Probably back when SWA was actually cheap to fly and had actual empty seats on a flight, now, not so much.

    Amtrak delays

The Eagles are experiencing service disruptions. Another bad day in Texas.

    Amtrak delays

Where in Kansas is the delays happening? Amtrak is the only train usually on the old Chief line through Dodge and the rest is double track main.

    Amtrak delays

Seeing lots of black across the country of lengthy delays. https://asm.transitdocs.com/ What is up with the Eagle being 7 hours late into FTW? Amtrak as usual regarding the Eagles does not give a reason for the delay. Not a good day for Amtrak across the country.

Amtrak service cuts on Texas Eagle

The wrong train being cancelled has been argued for years. I have always thought rerouting to the old Lone Star route would yield lower costs as it could be combined with the SWC at Newton. I am sure Texarkana, Longview and Marshall would not agree. Unless the Lone Star Crescent was implemented.

Possible disposition of Amfleets and Horizons after ICTs are deployed

Amtrak would rather the Amfleet for sure go bye bye. Less Mx inventory to keep. Can’t be easy sourcing parts for a 50 year old product

    On Time Performance (OTP)

21 lost 10 hours between STL and Texarkana, and yet operations let it continue San Antonio instead of stopping it in Ft. Worth as they have in the past when 21 is running exceedingly late. Now 22 will run exceedingly late all the way to CHI.

    On Time Performance (OTP)

For some reason Amtrak let 21 continue on to San Antonio though 10 hours late. There were no meet with #1 last night, and normally they just stop the train in FTW and turn it and bus the pax south. Now 22 is six hours late and have not even left San Antonio

SSLs used as axle count cars

Must be a recent phenomena, I remember the midwest trains running F40 and four or five Amfleets/ Horizon with no problem of being recognized by the host railroad's systems.
