4/12/22 EB Cancellations due to forecast blizzard

Does this train go through Donner Pass? jb

When will Amtrak debut their next livery?

What's more important than the livery is that the outside of the trains be kept clean and shiny. Lots of dirt on a new livery isn't going to sell seats. jb

    Hertz Rental at Orlando Station

This is a recurring question. Did Hertz close its rental desk in the Orlando station or is it open for business? jb

Question about missed connection in Chicago

I would make sure that your conductor knows you have to connect with the LSL. As of right now, 6(29) is due to arrive in Chicago at 8.53 p.m. 48(31) is due to depart at 9.30 p.m. They might want to escort you right from one train to the other. Don't forget to tell the conductor if you've got...

Los Angeles Union Station car rental experience

We rented an Avis car at Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal in November, 2021. We had no issues. jb

    Ethan Allen schedule change

Does anybody have any insight as to why the Ethan Allen extension plan didn't connect the train lines after coming all the way up from Rutland? jb

    Ethan Allen schedule change

So to do a loop trip to Vermont via the future Ethan Allen Express and the current Vermonter, you'd have to transfer somehow from one station to the other? jb

    Ethan Allen schedule change

Will the Ethan Allen Express stop in Burlington in the same place that the Vermonter does? Or will it be at another, somewhat nearby, station? jb

    Timetables/Flag Stops

What Amtrak management doesn't realize is that by publishing the GTFS data, a lot of this work (timetables, maps, alerts, apps, ...) can be outsourced to us willing outsiders, and they don't have to pay for it anymore. On the other hand, Amtrak's IT department probably does realize it and...

    Timetables/Flag Stops

Looks good. You're going to need a way to show the time zones, though. jb

    NS Aberdeen Derailment 3/5/2022

The rest of the story: My wife was to take 91 tonight from Cary, NC, to Orlando. My daughter was to drive from Atlanta to Orlando today, so that they could vacation together in Florida. After we learned about the derailment, it didn't take too long for Amtrak to cancel 91 out of New York -...

    NS Aberdeen Derailment 3/5/2022

91 is already canceled out of NYP. Now we see if they start one out of WAS. jb

    NS Aberdeen Derailment 3/5/2022

Amtrak just announced that the NEC is temporarily suspended because of a NS derailment at Aberdeen. If anyone has any information on how bad this is, please post it. The wife is supposed to take 91 tonight. Maybe it'll get through there or maybe they'll start the train out of Washington. JB

    Train Tracker - Trainspotting Tool

Those interested should read the feedback presented by users of the App. It doesn't track trains. It tracks you and your position/speed, etc..., and presumes that you are on a train. jb

    Timetables/Flag Stops

    Amtrak Tracker issues

In case you can't find it, ASM is here. ASM gets its information from the Amtrak reservations system. Transitdocs and Amtrak's Track-A-Train use Amtrak's GPS tracking system. So fortunately if one source is down, usually the other one isn't. jb

    Train Speed App

The old timer's way is to count the seconds between mileposts and divide 3600 by it. For example, 40 seconds will yield 90 MPH. jb
