Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

What puts it on the list is that it stands in the shadow of the grandeur of the former station. The comparison between the two is unavoidable. jb

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

I was referring to the cracker box part - the part that is actually currently the station. The nearby gorgeous part is actually the FORMER station. jb

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

I would nominate Salisbury, NC, because the Amtrak station which is in use is a little cracker box tacked onto the end of the original, super gorgeous station, which is not in use as a station. jb

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

Well, it certainly is different, but it's a heckuva lot better than the immediately prior station. jb

    Question about trip on Crescent

Just in case it's not clear from the above threads, the Crescent has no diner - only a cafe. jb

    Amtrak Carolinian and Piedmont Trains.

The new Gateway station at Charlotte is not yet under construction. However, the bridges to get to the station location are under construction. jb

    Is PTC killing scanner use?

The reason that I'm guessing that the assigned frequencies have simply been changed is that it happened recently on the NS between Greensboro, NC, and Charlotte, NC. NS didn't spend any money on encrypted digital channels or frequency hopping, etc... It just assigned a different frequency...

    Is PTC killing scanner use?

I'm guessing that the assigned radio frequencies in your area have been changed. jb

    Amtrak website

When I filled in my pre-trip covid check-in form, it DID NOT make me login first. It just wanted my id and reservation number. jb

    Amtrak Carolinian and Piedmont Trains.

Pre-pandemic, the crew would assign seats on the Carolinian. It's not done on the reservation. What they do now, I'm not sure. On the Piedmonts, the crew will indicate which car you should go to, depending on your destination. Within that car you can sit just about anywhere. jb

When is Sleeping Car returning to WAS-BOS overnight train?

So why switch the train at Washington (other than for the engine)? Why not leave the sleeper on there the whole way from Newport News to Boston and back? jb

When is Sleeping Car returning to WAS-BOS overnight train?

Does 65/66/57 currently have a sleeper? Between Boston and where? I looked at going from Newark, NJ, to Newport News from now until the rest of the year (spot checking) and the first class accommodations seemed to be completely blocked out. jb

Sorry about the kerfuffle that your wife witnessed. Take heart in knowing that those kinds of incidents are very rare. She was just "lucky". On the other hand, if you ride frequently over a period of years, eventually you'll collect enough stories that you can tell the grandkids. jb

What are the first class on-board amenities?

If you're booked on a sleeper on the Silver Star, do they still provide bottled water? Orange juice? Coffee? Soda? I know the contemporary meals are provided. Thanks, jb

Why does the Crescent still have no diner?

I thought in order to accept the latest government covid assistance, Amtrak had to put the trains back the way they were, but 19 and 20 still have no diner. jb

One hour layover with checked bags. Is that enough time?

Should the O.P. also put the CSL and Sunset trips on one reservation so that Amtrak is aware that there are passengers who must make the connection? jb

Cary, NC (Raleigh) to San Antonio

A long time ago (10 years?) the Silver Star (92) connected to the Capital Limited (29) at Washington, but doesn't anymore. So now we usually rent a car and drive to Washington in order to catch 29. jb
