    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

This is Labor Day so what are the chances that train maintenance might be lightly staffed today?

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

But some of us vocal people are not Texas folks. The Eagle is a long trip to take without the amenities it used to have. The Capitol and the City of New Orleans deserve better amenities but they are relatively short hauls compared to the Eagle.

I cannot find the actual arrival time of this train on the Amtrak train status cite or on the privately run Amtrak train status archive site. Maybe it is still on the road and hasn't arrived yet. Maybe Amtrak is hoping that no one will notice.

Estimated arrival of 8 (30) in Chicago is now 5:10 a.m. on Sept. 2.

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I see that 8(30) is operating 13 hours 30 minutes late due to an apparent locomotive breakdown near Ephrata, WA. Arrival in Chicago is expected to be 2:39 a.m. Sept. 2. There is a discussion on another list that Amtrak no longer has a spare locomotive at Spokane. Not sure how long that has...

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

Possibly by calling it the Eaglete, some thought they were honoring the French history of the region through which the train runs by giving it a French-sounding name. But in that case I guess they should probably call it "Le Petit Aigle."

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

Due to the loss of the sightseer lounge and the dining car (with traditional dining) the Eagle is not considered to be a fully adult long distance train.

Is Crescent getting Traditional Dining back this year?

I don't believe there has been any further news. I would also not believe any generalized statement coming from Amtrak. If they announced a specific Month, day and year that traditional dining was to be restored, I might put more faith (but certainly no money) on that. In the Fall of 2023...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I am trying to piece together from various reports and comments what happened with the Boston sleeper earlier this month. It appears that the Boston sleeper went west to Chicago and a problem was found with the air conditioning. Maybe there was no air conditioning. Based on the comments...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Two months of substantial cancellation of trains 448 and 449 from Sept. 1 to the end of October. No guarantee of any Albany - Boston express busses as a substitution. Just sad. With all of the months of cancellations of these trains over the years, I would think that the "necessary" trackwork...

This is Amtrak. You can pull just about anything there. Rules and consistent service mean nothing except when they provide an excuse to cancel a train outright.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

In my experience I have found the reverse to be true - that the in city locations are cheaper than the airport locations although their hours can be limited and some are not open on weekends.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Box lunches were certainly not provided to us as sleeper passengers on the planned 2019 bustitution. Passengers received only some candy and a bag of peanuts, maybe a small bag of chips also. On the bus there was no distinction made between the service provided to sleeping car passengers and...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

With the Boston - Albany service on 448 and 449, it seems to be an annual occurrence for CSX to do some major maintenance project over a month or so each year. During those projects, 448 and 449 do not operate and passengers are bustituted. Usually the dates are known in advance and Amtrak...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Thanks very much. I will be interested to know if there are any meal stops on the 448 and 449 bustitutions now. There certainly was no such option on our 448 bustitution in 2019. With the amount of time it took for the bus to divert from the Mass pike to service the intermediate stops (some...

    Pets on Long Distance Trains

I remember being seated on a bus near a person with a purported service dog after we had all arrived in Chicago on a very late No. 6 years ago and were awaiting transport to a hotel. It seemed to be a genuinely nice dog but it smelled like it hadn't been bathed for 2 years. Perhaps the owner...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

We were on an Albany-Boston bustitution in 2019. It was a scheduled and not a sudden event so there was ample time for planning. The detraining of Boston passengers from 48 at Albany and getting them to the bus was not well handled. The bus was jam-packed. Two blind passengers on the bus...

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

So if I understand correctly, on the 421/422 days there will be additional capacity on the Eagle over the present capacity. And with all the added capacity, I am sure that fares will be significantly reduced on those days. (Surely I jest.)
