    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I see a post on another list that 49 was observed this morning with no Boston sleeper. I assume they were talking about 49(12).

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

I understand that the changes to the Eagle consist will be "sometime this fall." If anyone has a more specific date, please let us know. There was a time when railroads often announced that a change would take place on a certain date, but it appears that Amtrak likes the word "sometime."

    Upgrade/Companion/Lounge Coupons: seeking, available, questions

I am curious about the method(s) of transferring lounge passes, upgrade coupons or companion coupons. The coupon restrictions say that the coupon can be transferred to a friend but how is that done? Do you merely give the recipient the code number for the coupon or do you have to transmit more...

    New member from GA

Welcome to AU. I have taken the Builder between Chicago and various points in the Pacific Northwest a number of times over the years beginning in 1971 (and earlier on the Western Star before that.) Frankly, I look forward to that long trip across the plains and I never get tired of it. It...

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

It certainly would be best to carry a good supply of your own food, including some snacks for breakfast. Getting some food in DC might be feasible or it might not be. Just to give you a heads up (and not to be discouraging but it probably is) the coach restrooms on the Crescent tend to be...

Very sorry to hear that your trip has been disrupted. I hope that you will be able to reschedule it at some point.

According to a post on another list, 2(22) is being turned at Kamloops and is returning to Vancouver. I imagine that this may also disrupt No. 1 and the Prince Rupert trains.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

On second thought, perhaps we should be quiet about this. If we call too much attention to this service, it will probably be the next service to be cut as senior management continue in their never-ending quest for bonuses.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

Here is what I posted a while back about a viewliner I sleeping car roomette. I am still not sure about the viewliner II dimensions but it seems to me that someone has said they are the same but corrections would be welcome: Here is what I posted then: "The overhead storage bin in a Viewliner...

If service results in a cancellation of a train or of a particular service, such as the cancellation of a sleeping car, passengers affected by that cancellation are entitled to a refund.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Albuquerque and La Junta are crew change points so they are longer stops. Albuquerque seems to always be a half hour to an hour and they wash the train windows there. Take a short walk to the city bus station and look at the panels explaining the history of the Alvarado Hotel which was at...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

I guess it is time to check in again. In the fall of 2023, I recall some posters who indicated that they had inside knowledge of Amtrak's operations and plans indicated that traditional dining would be restored on the Lake Shore in late 2023 or early 2024. It is now mid-year 2024...

The upstate New York garage plate sounds far superior to flex dining and I am sure there is no connection.
