Low bucket one person roomette from Bloomington to LA is 25 dollars cheaper than going from San Antonio to LA on the Eagle. Booking on the Sunset from SAS is about $150 more. Another example of crazy Amtrak pricing.

I keep thinking Amtrak will eventually just allow Select Executive with a same day ticket into the lounges. Hope I m wrong. I have had Select Plus for four years. Getting to Executive is too pricey for me.

$988 for a bedroom on the EB from Chi to Sea. A price that is worth the trip. Alas,if only bedrooms could be this price. Last week you could have grabbed that price on the EB with one days notice. Unfortunately most people don’t plan for a huge trip that close.

When you book a few months out it is usually 10 to 30% full. By the time you leave it’s usually 90 to 100% full.

I tried Rail for Less for a Mid May trip from Elizabethtown Pa to BWI. Came back with an $87 fare. I used senior discount and booked Elt -Phl for $27 and Phl-BWI for $14, considerably less.

Best BC is the Pacific Surfliner. They are only on daytime trains. If you can get a seat to yourself they are worth it.
