    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Flex dining came to the Lake Shore and Capitol Ltd in June 2018. Because of the overwhelming popularity and nothing but kudos to Mr. Anderson for introducing this vastly improved dining experience it was expanded to all the Eastern trains and the Texas Eagle. (By the way,in case anybody didn't...

L.A. Times tries Coach travel LAX>SEA

I would love the Sunset/Crescent idea. Transferring from the SL to the Crescent,I can't justify paying for a hotel for that short period of time, plus the added time and expense getting to and from the hotel. I did spend an overnight at the station. This was about 16 years ago. Wouldn't do that...

L.A. Times tries Coach travel LAX>SEA

Adding to my post you would need to disembark the CS in Sac to do the San Joaquin/bus to make the SW Chief.

    Business Class downgrade

Why is Business Class being taken off the CS? Shame it happened earlier this year on the LSL. Every overnight train should have a BC car. It's a step above Coach and an alternative for the crazy high sleeper prices.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

Glad I am retired and flexible. I have never paid more than low bucket for a roomette in my many years of traveling. A bit of work, but you have to keep checking. I'm flying to Fort Lauderdale next week from BWI. I thought of taking the train back. Even looking at roomette fares months in advance...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Exactly. You expect fresh cooked to order food aka traditional dining when paying $600 or more for a sleeper. If anybody on this forum thinks Covid was the reason Flex was introduced as early as June 2018.

No Business Class on the Coast Starlight

Amtrak will not sell you the adjoining seat just to keep it empty.

No Business Class on the Coast Starlight

Ideally, every long distance train should have one car where you are guaranteed both seats,at a premium,of course. Would be a nice bridge between Coach and a roomette. As a solo traveler a guarantee of both seats on an overnight train would be great.

No Business Class on the Coast Starlight

They also removed BC from the Lake Shore Chicago-Boston earlier this year. Why? Every LD train should have a Business Class Car. It's a step up from Coach and a lot more affordable than a roomette.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

A facebook poster who was on the Meteor yesterday told him traditional dining will return to both Silver trains next month. We can only hope.

Eastern vs western long distance trains

In a nutshell Eastern trains are viewliners, single level, with the exception of the Capitol Limited, which is a double decker Superliner. All the Western long distance trains are Superliners. Traditional dining is on the Western trains because they are two night runs, with the exception of the...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

It would really be nice to restore traditional dining by next month,in time for winter travel to and from Florida. What a difference traditional dining makes on a long distance train.

    Moynihan Train Hall

By far,the nicest lounge in Amtrak's system and the best selection of food and drink. As far as food and drink,no other lounge even comes close.

    Capitol Limited discussion

Looks like it hasn't been updated for several years. Scratch the delicious meals and sightseer car. Imagine how dissapointed passengers are when they book this train based on this ad.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

If only a business class car was on every long distance(overnight) train. A nice bridge between Coach and outrageously priced sleepers. Why was it taken off the LSL? Only overnight with BC is the Coast Starlight.

    Sunset Limited discussion

A sleeper and Coach car from 21,traveling from Chicago is attatched to the rear of 1 in San Antonio to contunue on to LA. The train usually arrives at 10PM,but it is often late. 1 arrives usually just past Midnight. The train leaves at 2:45AM.
