    Food suggestions on delayed trains

I‘ve never had Dinty Moore on Amtrak but I’ve had it for midrats more times than I count. Not as good as beanies and weenies but much better than the shepards pie and “salisbury” steaks we get.

    Metro North to Penn Station

Are there any plans to re-route some Hudson Line trains to Penn?

    Hurricane Henri 8/22/21

Henri wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I live in SE CT and we thankfully didn’t lose power. Lots of rain but no downed trees or structural damage to speak of in my town.

So you want to run a steam locomotive?

Absolutely. But not everyone has the time or money to fly to Poland and spend a week running a commuter train.

So you want to run a steam locomotive?

https://essexsteamtrain.com/experiences/hand-on-the-throttle/ There is also the option of doing this a little closer to home.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

The strike was in 1963, a court ordered passenger service restored in ‘65, and it was ultimately discontinued in ‘68. I haven’t been to that part of Miami in a long long time (probably 15 years or so) but the train station minus the tracks and platforms was still there when I was growing up. My...

    Tri Rail, But Not Me.

In non-COVID times there are plenty of tour operators that run excursions to the Everglades from South Florida. This link Everglades Tours from Miami is an example of one. I’m not sure what the status of such tours are at this time.

    Tri Rail, But Not Me.

That restaurant has been around since the late nineties. I remember riding Tri-Rail with my dad when I was a teenager and that little restaurant, or some version of it, was there. Good to know it’s still around.

Both Autotrains & Silver Meteor in Service Disruption

There are critical graphite moderated light water cooled reactors rolling around America’s rail systems? Maybe they can stop somewhere in CT and lower the delivery portion of my electric bill.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

As Jis said the Orange Line has never actually run, it’s still a plan on paper. And MDT doesn’t have any real say on when or if it ever starts. Tri-Rail is run by the South Florida Regional Transit Authority, which is made up of representatives from the three counties it serves. It has a...

The junction itself is not brand new, it’s been around forever. The track connection, allowing southbound Tri-Rail trains to head east on the FEC, is new.

Ft Lauderdale Station / First Amtrak trip

I have felt perfectly safe in that neighborhood waiting for trains and busses numerous times with a couple of caveats. One, the last time i rode Tri-Rail was ten years ago and two I’m a fairly large (6’2”, 260 LBS) male. I think its safe but I fully understand why others may not. According to...

Could Siemens Viaggio/Ventures be the next sleeper car?

With the way all of Amtrak’s recent orders have gone, except the new Acela’s, I would expect cars ordered in 2022 to start arriving sometime in 2035. I‘m saying this tongue-in-cheek but not really.

    Amtrak employee meals

mypay.dfas.mil literally gives the base pay for every pay grade at every year of service. Our special pay and BAH allowances are public knowledge and easily searchable as well.

    Worst non-Amtrak transportation experience

I had a planes, trains, and automobiles incident a few years ago while living in Hampton. My girlfriend, now wife, was still living on Long Island at the time and we tried to visit eacg other at least once a month. It was my turn to travel so I booked a flight from Norfolk to MacArthur Airport...

    Brightline Orlando extension

There have been many plans over the years. Dade County passed a half-cent sales tax increase in 2002 that was billed as the People’s Transportation Plan. It was supposed to fund a whole bunch of stuff, including a full build out of the Metrorail system (which would have converted the busway to...

    Brightline Orlando extension

Yes Key West used to be served by rail. However the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 destroyed the railroad. FEC sold the right of way to the state and the state used what infrastructure remained to build the Overseas Highway, which still exists today. There are tracks to Homestead, which if memory...

    Brightline Orlando extension

Correct. If you look at the current Tri-Rail route map, trains that go to MiamiCentral will leave the CSX tracks south of the Metrorail Transfer and head directly to MiamiCentral. Trains headed to the Airport will continue along the original route.

    The first "Air Force One"

Technically any Air Force plane the president is on, regardless of its configuration, is Air Force One. The same way any Navy plane he is on becomes Navy One, Marine aircraft becomes Marine One etc. An example of this was back in 2003 when GW flew aboard an S-3 Viking to the Abraham Lincoln to...

    Airlines being upended

Last week the DOT sent the airlines a reminder that they must refund tickets when they cancel a flight or significantly change an itinerary. However, if you cancelled your flight then you wouldn’t be eligible for a refund unless you booked a non-refundable ticket. You would only be covered by...
