Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

I too refuse to give United any of my hard earned money. Unfortunately when I fly for work my options are constrained by things like “price” and “city pairs” and I am sometimes forced to give United some of the taxpayers hard earned money. Overall I despise United as much as any person can...

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

JetBlue is an excellent airline from a comfort perspective. Their regular coach seats have at least 32 inches of pitch and all are 18 inches wide. JetBlue also offers free, fast WiFi throughout the flight and every seat has an amazing seat back entertainment system. If you are flying to the west...

North East Corridor (NEC) speeds, new stations and state of repair

I believe CT only has constant tension east of New Haven.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H1 2024

Regardless of their performance elsewhere, companies always seem to suffer major delays when it comes to delivering equipment for Amtrak. Even though Stadler may be proficient delivering EMU’s and DMU’s to commuter outfits recent history tells us any Amtrak order they take will be majorly delayed.

Future ideas for service in South Eastern US

Anyone that books a same day cruise connection, regardless of how they travel, is asking for trouble and setting themselves up for failure. While there is probably a case for Amtrak to reinstate a third NYP-MIA train I doubt that cruise traffic is it. Furthermore, the time for Amtrak to...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

It happens in Tampa and Denver everyday. There may be a few other places it happens as well.

Last mile transport between train station and cruise terminal

Neither the Miami nor Ft Lauderdale Amtrak stations are closer to the cruise ports than the respective airports.

    More trouble for Boeing

I feel like the families of the 347 people that died don’t think Boeings problems are overblown. I bet they wish that the agencies that were supposed to regulate them actually did their jobs before lives were lost. Let’s also remember that Boeing is having quality control problems with numerous...

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

To be clear, Amtrak revived sleeper service between Boston and DC after COVID. There are numerous videos on YouTube detailing the service. I have no idea why the service was withdrawn but I’m sure Amtrak has some unfulfilling excuse as to why they no longer operate the sleeper. As for the...

Future ideas for service in South Eastern US

I thought Raleigh had high level platforms which would preclude using Superliners regardless of equipment availability.

Future ideas for service in South Eastern US

If memory serves the mid-90’s early-00’s Silver Palm/Palmetto departed Miami at 5pm and arrived around noon. So I don’t think they would have to adjust the times too much to make it work. I think the biggest obstacles are equipment availability and getting permission to run another train along...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

Right now it is typical for each train to have one sleeper with toilets in the room and one without. There are some days when this isn’t true but this is the typical consist.

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

Why are so many V1’s out of service? When they add the fourth coach are they going to switch the consist so the sleepers are in the front? I’m riding the Meteor mid-June and was hoping the sleepers would still be on the rear.

Container Ship strikes and collapses Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge

On submarines, in restricted waters, when the maneuvering watch is stationed, an anchor watch is still required. I’m not sure what the requirements are for surface ships.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024

Agree with most of what you said except for the station location. If Orlando had a robust and easy to use public transportation system then Brightlines station location would be problematic. But Orlando does not. Tourists have to rent cars or use taxis and ride shares to get around and for that...

Pittsburgh Light Rail Upgrades Kicking Off

I’m by no means an expert on Pittsburgh transit but I believe the route through Allentown is the old Brown Line which had regular service until 2011. Classy Whale has a pretty good video explaining it all on his YouTube page.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

I’m really hoping that whoever wrote this article made a mistake when they wrote Metromover and really meant Metrorail. Regardless, this thing will probably get built around the same time as all the other transit lines Dade County residents were promised in 02 when they voted for the half cent...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars 2024

I would counter that every car building contract Amtrak signs is a long term one since it regularly takes 10 years or longer for cars to be delivered and put into service once the contract is signed. I understand what you mean I was just pointing out how snake bitten/incompetent Amtrak is when...
