Rail Nation Symposium October 6th - 8th, 2023 in Meridian MS

Did he break down the car type within each fleet? Are the 11 Viewliner 2’s dining cars?

    Amtrak Business Class

I believe some Venture business class cars are running but the space is not being sold as business class. Thom of Trains are Awesome posted a video on YouTube a few months ago relating to this.

Miles rides VIA from London to Windsor

    Thanks for the clarification.

Miles rides VIA from London to Windsor

I mean you all certainly know more than me as I have never been to Eastern Canada or ridden VIA but they lump Windsor-Toronto in with their other Corridor services on their website. Travel Ontario and Québec: Corridor train routes | VIA Rail

Miles rides VIA from London to Windsor

Is this section not part of VIA’s Corridor service? If it is then it is analogous to the NE Corridor in that it is part of the countries busiest and densest route.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Nobody botches procurement contracts quite like Amtrak. Understand this isn’t entirely their fault but my god are they snake bitten.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

There is already a tunnel under the New River so no need to look a thousand miles away. All Brightline has to do is look up the engineering plans they used 63 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_River_Tunnel

Long distance overnight travel in Amtrak sleeper?

I have travelled cross country in a sleeper and found it to be enjoyable and relaxing. However, my vacation was the train travel so I wasn’t worried about delays or missing connections or missed activities. You mentioned traveling for a conference so I would highly recommend you plan your...

    Crescent discussion

There was a major pandemic and a few months without trains in FY20. That might have something to do with lesser ridership that year.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

I guess the airlines and freight railroads, which are private but have unloaded virtually all their infrastructure costs onto various government, are doing their best. I’m always amazed at how capitalism in this country means industry gets to keep all the profits and socialize all the losses.

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

To be honest there isn’t much difference, it mostly comes down to personal preference and location. For example, Delta offers personal tv’s at every seat on virtually their entire mainline fleet (except the B717) whereas United and American mostly only offer them on wide body aircraft. The other...

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

I’m sure this is borne out of workplace pride but in all seriousness is there a way to tell which carrier has the best pilots?

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

I have never flown JetBlue internationally but I have flown them cross country twice within the last 15 months, once in Mint and once in coach. Both flights were comfortable and pleasant. On one of the coach flights I had the middle seat and was perfectly comfortable for the entire flight. I’m...

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

JetBlue also schedules more turns for their planes than most other airlines. Combine that with them having large operations in areas prone to congestion and weather delays and you have a recipe for operational issues.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

The article that needs to be written is one investigating why Amtrak can’t get any car orders delivered on time and what is being done to ensure this order isn’t delayed. Call me skeptical but I would add at least two years to whatever timeline Amtrak produces when this order is eventually placed.

    New York Penn Station v3.0

This can be done in Moynihan as well. Once the track is posted simply head down to the West End Concourse and access your track from there. No lines and no gate dragons.

NEC state of good repair work and planned service expansion

No it is already there. It is the track closest to the river and was used by SLE prior to them switching to the M8’s. It is signed as track 6 at the station and can be seen in the picture below.

NEC state of good repair work and planned service expansion

Do you know if Amtrak intends to turn the high level riverside platform at New London into a true island platform? I assume electrifying track 6 is for SLE but the current high level platform only has space for one door to open on the track 6 side. Also the link works in Safari.

    Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT) (2021 - 1Q 2024)

These are going to be really nice when they finally enter service in 2030.

    Rude Amtrak employees

Amtraks poor customer service is why I never recommend it to anyone I know. I have friends that would probably thoroughly enjoy a slow, relaxing trip on Amtrak but I can’t in good conscience set them up for the terrible experience and customer service they would likely receive.
