FRA Long Distance Service Study discussion

Go to This Link and scroll down to the bottom. You will see "Contact Us" with text boxes to input your name, email, and the comment. I'd recommend writing your comment in Google Docs/Word and copy-pasting it into the comment box, but that's just me. Glad to see someone else that shares my view...

    Viewliner I Names

Does anyone know if Amtrak is ever going to complete the renaming of the VL1 sleepers to the River series? Only two out of the 49 still in service have been done...

    Amtrak in Florida

Obviously the map is zoomed out so it's hard to tell, but the route wouldn't go via Daytona, as that would require a connection between the FEC and the CSX A-Line :)

    Amtrak in Florida

Hopefully by "in support of" you mean you're for and not against S-Line service ;) It's a shame that it didn't make it through the initial prioritization, but things can always change right? I'm honestly not sure how easily CSX might agree or not. Their new CEO seems to at least be a bit more...

    Amtrak in Florida

Sorry for bumping the thread, but I can't seem to find the contract restrictions mentioned here and in other threads banning Amtrak from operating over the S-Line (excluding re-routes). Granted, I may have missed it, but I've been poring through the contracts available at SunRail's website and...

FRA Long Distance Service Study discussion

I recently submitted a comment discussing restoration of service over the CSX S-Line in Florida. I don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt.

    Superliner Baggage Cars?

Sorry if I don't understand what you mean, but Amtrak has 70 VL2 baggage cars on roster. How is that going to be an issue?

    Auto Train discussion

As far as I know, yes. The SL2 order in the early 90’s was made with a conversion of Auto Train to Superliner equipment in mind (hence the existence of the deluxe sleepers). Because the SL2 cars were new at the time, Amtrak made sure all cars in the Auto Train pool were SL2 equipment to promote...

    Auto Train discussion

I finally uploaded my footage from my Auto Train trip earlier this month. This video walks through the entire train documenting car numbers, names, and refurbishment status.

    Transition Sleeper discussion

Does anyone have any photos of this area? I’ve heard about the crew lounges for years but I can’t find any info about them, and therefore have no idea what they actually look like.

    Atlantic Coast Service discussion

It appears that the Meteor got its 4th coach back at some point in the past few days. Back up to its pre-Covid consist, though given the rumors about a sleeper being removed in about a week, it may not last.

    Changes/Additions to mid-sized stations.

Yep! At its peak, Hamlet saw ~30 passenger trains and well over 100 freight trains a day. You could get to anywhere on the Seaboard from Hamlet: Richmond, Portsmouth, Charlotte, Charleston, Wilmington, Atlanta/Birmingham, Montgomery, Tallahassee, Tampa, or Miami. Because of that, Hamlet was...

    Changes/Additions to mid-sized stations.

I just visited the Hamlet depot last week and the entire first floor is a museum dedicated to the SAL and the city. The basement even has a whole operational model railroad layout of the area.

    Refreshed Superliners in service

Sorry, but did you mean SL2 or SL1? My photo is of an SL2, and the dark reddish color is actually carpet and not wood unfortunately. SL1 diners have wood planking along the walls and above the windows. I believe they were the table numbers. The crew put them out before the first dinner seating...

    Refreshed Superliners in service

Got off the Auto Train yesterday (P053-08), all of the coaches were refurbished as well as the diner, though unfortunately no sleepers (all Superliner II). No pictures of the coaches, however their numbers were 34130, 34119, 34127, and 34118. The diner was 32052. I find it interesting how...

Piedmont and North Carolina DOT Service discussion

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where are NCDOT’s cab cars? I rode the Piedmont in late 2021, and we had to F59s for power. Furthermore, I’ve never seen video of an NCDOT cab car in operation. Are they just backup in case an F59 fails?

    Auto Train discussion

I will be riding AT in about two weeks, and I plan to document the full consist with video and photos :)

P42 164 Now the Phase IV Heritage Unit?

Saw a photo of #164 in the Phase IV livery, and wanted to see if anyone hear has seen it yet.

    Atlantic Coast Service discussion

The Meteor actually only had two sleepers when it restarted in October, and got the third one back in January.

New Gulf Coast service (New Orleans - Mobile and Baton Rouge)

I've seen that people have been saying that the new service is just going to be called the Gulf Coast, but according to the FY24 doc, they'll be using the original Gulf Coast Limited name...
