Should I try overnight coach again?

I think this would probably be the safest bet if I really wanted to try overnight Coach again. Perhaps I would do a trip to somewhere I've already been before and do just one hotel night there, that way if I lose that day sleeping it isn't that big of a deal.

Should I try overnight coach again?

I know that. I was using Viewliner as another way of saying eastern LD train. Sorry for using the wrong terminology.

Should I try overnight coach again?

It was a Viewliner. I haven’t rode a Superliner yet.

Should I try overnight coach again?

This is the question I have been asking myself ever since my first, and so far only, LD trip back in 2018. While there were things I enjoyed, such as the scenery and the cafe car food, I got almost no sleep and experienced some motion sickness too. I was fully recovered the day after I arrived...

    Moynihan Train Hall

This is good to know. Thanks! I was wondering if it was possible to get to Moynihan Train Hall from old Penn Station. Good to know about the waymarking too. I'll have to remember this for the next time I'm in NYP.

    First ever Amtrak Experience

My first ever Amtrak trip was on the 93 NER from NYP to BAL in Coach back in the Summer of 2018. I had been wanting to ride Amtrak for years and finally I had the opportunity to ride it. I chose NYP because I had always wanted to ride Amtrak to/from New York City. I took a Martz bus from...

North East Corridor (NEC) night train and sleeper journey

That's how it was on the LSL too when I rode it in 2018.

Is enrolling in Guest Rewards worth it for infrequent Amtrak traveler?

I'm an infrequent Amtrak traveler and I am a member of Guest Rewards. I didn't sign up for it for my first trip because I wasn't sure when I would be riding Amtrak again, but after having a good experience with Amtrak and joining this forum, I decided to sign up for AGR. Nice thing about AGR...

Figuring out how far to ride the eastbound Cardinal

I know that those cities are served by more than just the Cardinal, which is why I picked them. I need a place that is served by both the Cardinal as well as the NER (or the Crescent, that works too). The idea is that I get off the Cardinal at one of these places, stay overnight, and then the...

Inaugural run of the new "Night Owl"

It is really cool to see the overnight NERs having sleepers again. I might have to add doing an NER sleeper trip from BOS-WAS (or vice versa) to my Amtrak bucket list.

Figuring out how far to ride the eastbound Cardinal

I know that the Cardinal only runs three times a week, so when I say that I am going to stay overnight and transfer the next morning, I mean that I will stay overnight the day before the Cardinal arrives and then the next morning will be the day the Cardinal arrives. Yes, there are still...

Figuring out how far to ride the eastbound Cardinal

So, one of the things on my Amtrak bucket list is to ride the Cardinal. Not sure when it would be, but it is something I would love to do one day. Living where I do and not being able to drive, a same day connection to the westbound Cardinal is impossible. A same day connection from the...

Do we need "Long Distance " trains?

The idea of stopping overnight at a hotel en route and then continuing on the next morning would have appealed to me while I was having a rough time sleeping in coach during my 2018 LSL trip, but looking at the arguments against the OP's idea I could see why it wouldn't work out. I would ride...

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

Lot of great responses here. It would seem that this is indeed a stretch worth seeing. Seems like westbound would be the best option in order to see it in daylight. Speaking in general, not this particular year, the earliest month of the year I would do this would be March and the latest...

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

So, back in 2018, I rode the LSL from NYP to CHI on 49, so I never got to see the BOS to ALB part of the route, which is exclusive to 449/448. I haven't been traveling since this pandemic began and I am waiting until after I get vaccinated and pandemic restrictions are lifted until I ride...

    Pittsburgh station?

I live in the Wilkes-Barre, PA area and ARROW always tries to push the Pennsylvanian to CL connection on me. The late night layover makes me nervous and the early morning one doesn't sound great to me either, so I avoid this connection. I will admit though that it does look appealing when...

    Trip to MKE in Coach

Took another picture of the lake and thought this building in the background looked interesting. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I found out that it is part of the Navy Pier. More pictures of Grant Park. The building formerly known as the Sears Tower. It's been called the...

    Trip to MKE in Coach

Fall foilage in Chicago's Grant Park. Best fall foilage I saw on the whole trip. Buckingham fountain. View of Lake Michigan from Grant Park.

    Trip to MKE in Coach

Elkhart, IN. Thought it was cool seeing this old New York Central train parked outside the station. It must be part of the museum in town. I saw another New York Central train over in the Hudson valley, but unfortunately I didn't take a picture of that one. View of Milwaukee from the Vue...

    Trip to MKE in Coach

So one thing I never did with this trip report is post pictures. I've never been that happy with how they turned out, so I didn't bother posting them. I've gotten nostalgic for my journeys on Amtrak, so I decided to say what the heck and post some of them. Hoboken Terminal. I love old...
