I took Metra to O’Hare back in October. The train wasn’t crowded so I put my carry-on suitcase in the space between the seat next to me and the seat in front of that one. It was a nice ride.

I remember that chemical smell. I smelled it when I rode the LSL and Hiawatha back in October. I didn’t mind the smell, except when I was motion sick.

If you are prone to motion sickness, I highly recommend taking Dramamine or something similar.

Sleepers on The LSL were cheaper by about $100-200 leaving from SYR instead of NYP. $400-500 instead of $660 on the day I was traveling. To get to Syracuse you would have to take a bus (either LCTA or Martz) to Scranton and then a $33 Greyhound from there. The bus would get you to SYR by 7:10...

A few weeks ago, I took a trip to Milwaukee using Amtrak. I rode in coach, taking the LSL from NYP to CHI to connect with the Hiawatha. Since Wilkes-Barre isn’t served by Amtrak I had to take a bus to NYC first. I had a few hours in NYC before I had to get on the LSL, so I decided to walk...

I just rode 49 and the cafe car was towards the front of the train, part of the Boston section. I didn’t count the cars, but you have to walk through a few cars to get to the cafe from the NYP coach section.

I agree that June is new. I guess Martz didn’t notify Amtrak in time before Amtrak made that NER schedule.

Martz Trailways’ Philadelphia run added the Allentown stop sometime in June. Amtrak never printed it on the NER schedule, so you will have to go to Martz website for the proper schedule.

Good review. I’ll actually be riding the LSL soon, but in coach. The sleeper price is ridiculously high, imo.

True, the Cardinal is worse. Either way, it takes me three hours just to get to NYP from where I live. Would need to stay overnight in midtown the night before to catch either of those two trains. Same for the Maple Leaf.

Would love to go to Montreal one of these days. I just wish the Adirondack had a better departure time from NYP.

Has anyone ever heard about anyone having their wallet, phone, etc stolen from them while they slept in coach? I was talking to a friend of mine about an upcoming LD trip and that was something they asked. Sorry if this is an odd question. Thanks

Thanks everyone for your replies. Since my last post, I decided to go with the plan where I stay overnight in Baltimore and it looks like MARC is a good option.
