What happens on the train when it is twelve hours late?

The Capitol Ltd will release 6 sleepers, 6 coaches and 3 37000 diner/lounges. There is always the possibility of cut cars. If they don't have 6 coaches or sleepers to add to the Zephyr sets, they could have 3 to cut/add at Denver. It would be very easy with it backing in for each direction...

    Salt Lake City Station discussion

I got off a Superliner in SLC in 2012. While the platform is level, there is one hell of a gap between train and platform where anyone can easily step into, especially half-asleep at 1am. They should either close that gap or toss out threshold plates.

What happens on the train when it is twelve hours late?

At what point do they call up Quiznos (which I had on a Pioneer when the diner was rendered unsuable by a water tank leak), Subway, or KFC ? Subway is not set up well for mass production.

New Gulf Coast service (New Orleans - Mobile and Baton Rouge)

There is no such thing as a Viewliner coach.

    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Given the fact this happened literally in God's Country, I don't know what they could have done better, except hold the trains for what they figured at the time would be a unpredictably long delay, though they could have ordered ahead some real food at Cut Bank or East Glacier, assuming more...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

That might encourage some people from NYP-PHL to go via DC than the Pittsburgh sleepless/shuffle.

    Greyhound sounding Chicago alarm

Major attitude adjustment for Flixbus/Greyhound, that actually has to behave like a real bus company, not a curbside-Chinatown outfit. They also need to learn stop stranding people at "depots" (filling stations) for days awaiting a driver to show up.

Pennsylvanian (the train(s) and route) discussion

One or the other must have been on a train to Pontiac a few days ago, I think to discuss service over to Windsor ON.

    East River Tunnels rehabilitation 2024-2027

Adirondack is 5 cars. NJT trains in NYPS under 6 cars is very rare, if ever.

    East River Tunnels rehabilitation 2024-2027

LIRR West Side Yard is not at all what I am referring to, but the yard south of the tunnels and west of Penn Station, (I don't know the name or designation of it) . They do in fact stash NJT trains there.

Positive food / alcohol reinforcement will encourage them to hang out by RR tracks. Bears are not stupid and reason by association.

    East River Tunnels rehabilitation 2024-2027

There are things that Amtrak should have seriously considered, which is their responsibility, not DOT's: 1) Separate trains 63 and 69 once it arrives from SSY at around 645am doggy-style. Send 63 on its way at 7:15am. Send 69 straight out to the yard just west of Penn Station, then back in...

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

Will they eventually have locos and cab cars laying around ? How long does it take to uncouple and couple these cars ?

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

I think the addition of the cafe car with tables is to mimic the old business model of ONR's GO-Carts with interiors refiitted identically to Amtrak's Heritage lounge cars, and not to be like VIA Rail with service trolleys, which ONR evidently does not want to be bothered with, continually...

I was only going by this picture https://railfan.com/ontario-government-purchases-siemens-trainsets/ The far end looks like a cab car

How much corn spilled ? Bears have been rumored to feast on derailed, fermented, spilled corn, get drunk, and act more unpredictably than normal.

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

VIA had been planning on both 3 and 7 car Ventures. ONR is procuring 3 car Ventures. What now ?

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

They (Boardman, Lautenberg, Gardner as Hill staffer) came up 750 miles to draw a Sharpie line between the Carolinan (704) and Capitol Limited (780) and of course exempt the NEC spine (457). Anderson/Gardner's/Coscia's "National Network 2" of 2018 would have slashed the LD network from 15 to 5...

Then the 2 Amfleet-2 coaches that they used to lengthen the Pennsylvanians by 1 car can be sent to Floridian service. Maybe that's why they wrapped up early.

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

Still and all, Thameslink connected a pair of lines to the northern suburbs to a pair in the southern suburbs with dual voltage MU trains. They also found an abandoned tunnel to facilitate it. Manhattan does not have that, Thameslink is not universal thru running, they didn't rip out stub...
