Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H2

It may just be me but I cringe when I think of the daily waste across the Amtrak system that must be created with all those disposable plates. But I am the type who recycles anything than can be, including picking up random plastic bottles when I'm out and about and throwing them in a recycle...

    CTA Ventra

I'm going to have a few hours to kill in Chicago on a couple of days in the next week. For the heck of it I got an RTA reduced far card after I attained that certain age but have yet to use it, and frankly I am a bit confused. Tried calling RTA/CTA and could not get past the mind-numbing menus...

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Pretty much, they have. Not sure if it's 100% rolled out yet. Bad news is the mattresses haven't changed. Still terribly uncomfortable. What we are still waiting on is the new china and tableware in traditional dining that was highly touted a few years ago.

    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2

I'll post this here to start. If it's more appropriate elsewhere, so be it. A creative interactive Washington Post story about a cross country train trip on the Zephyr and Lake Shore Limited. Hopefully the link provides free access; if not, my apologies...

Trip Report Video on The Canadian - 73 tips and suggestions

Nicely done. Great tips for my planned trip in April.

    US Space Program

That said, the FAA is grounding Falcon 9s until an investigation is completed into the explosion of a booster upon landing on a drone ship off Cape Canaveral. No estimates on length of the delay, but could be significant.

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

I already had both the premium and basic card with BofA which converted to FNBO. For other reasons, I am not going to risk cancelling my current card to try again for the premium, for fear that for some technicality I'll be aced out.

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

I learned another lesson with FNBO the hard way earlier this year. I had the premium card already and wanted to get the 40k point bonus promotion. I flew too close to the sun, thinking I could be clever and cancel that card and reapply a couple of weeks later. I was rejected because I already...

    Amtrak bustitution discussion

Of course the publicity was the only factor. While I despise modern social media (and yet, here I am, haha), it can play a powerful role in getting corporations to back down. I know this because I worked in a corporation that was highly sensitive to public criticism. And I know of many...

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

I've had Select Plus the last two years (not certain now if I'll make that status for next year) and never had an issue being rebuffed in a lounge with a coach ticket, even in NY. Probably another of a one-off by a power hungry gate keeper.

    US Space Program

And now NASA is acing Boeing out on returning Williams and Wilmore, opting for SpaceX...in February. This isn't surprising. An eight day mission turns into eight months.

    Boarding in Alliance, Ohio

Ok, I'm an Alliance native though I have not lived there in many years, but I do visit on occasion. I'll start and try to help but hopefully someone else has more relevant information. The "station" is a glorified shelter, though very nice, well lit and while open to the elements (with a roof)...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

That is a remarkable amount of infrastructure work. The sarcastic me wants to say it's high speed rail! But, of course, we know that's not true.

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

Times, people and policies change, but several years ago I was on the Eagle and was denied access to the station during our layover. Granted, yes, we were well behind schedule but it wasn't train personnel who denied access, it was somebody who appeared to work in the station when I got to the...

    Amtrak bustitution discussion

My one experience with bustitution in late June 2015 on the California Zephyr was a doozy. Was taking my son on a college graduation trip to San Francisco. Due to a washout in Iowa we were something like 10 hours late into Denver. This included a very lengthy delay in the middle of nowhere...
