Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

I haven't a clue what you mean here. I don't know all the jargon. But thank you.

Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

Seeking additional insight. The BC125AT appears to make the most sense for a beginner like me. Reasonable cost and semi-easy programming (though clunky for a neophyte, in my opinion). Yet when I hear that railroads may move to digital, even if timing is unknown, wonder if it makes sense to...

    Amtrak Management issues

Interestingly the NYT articles states: "Customer satisfaction continues to be a challenge for the service, as it just barely missed hitting the milestone it had set. No bonuses tied to customer satisfaction were given, Ms. Leeds said." Also, I found it laughable in the House subcommittee...

    Amtrak Management issues

Here is a New York Times story on executive bonuses. Included are pointed quotes from Sen. Cruz. Should be a gifted article. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/12/us/politics/amtrak-executive-bonuses.html?unlocked_article_code=1.zU0.TfTv.L0lPHtVCQtpl&smid=url-share

    Adirondack discussion

I am not personally familiar with this line and certainly the segment requiring the most work, but those that are, what are they likely doing? This almost sounds a complete rebuild. How many miles are we talking about? From descriptions the one segment seemed to be in pretty rough shape...

Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

Total Luddite here when it comes to scanners. Would really like to jump into the game and appreciate the info provided in the forum. So, here comes the uneducated query: I live about 6 miles as the crow flies from the Pittsburgh Amtrak station. I take it a basic Uniden handheld with a provided...

If your congresswoman is who I think she is, perhaps at the same time she can explain why she and the rest of the House colleagues plan to cut Amtrak funding by 60%.

    Virginia

Thank you for the complete guide. I've seen Manassas and agree it is beautiful and am quite familiar with Baltimore. To do Colonial Williamsburg justice I would need more time than I can give in return day train trip. I guess that'll be another trip. I am now giving serious thought to...

    Bid Up questions and experiences

Their initial suggestion on what would be a successful bid is higher than I would bid. So I'm waiting until closer to the date to see if that changes to gauge my chance of success. As I said, if I fall short, no worries but I'd like to give myself a good shot.

    Virginia

Taking a long weekend to WAS in a couple of weeks and thinking of using Saturday for a round trip using one of the Virginia Services which I've never done. The obvious choice is Ashland given the quaintness of the town and train watching. Thoughts of Fredericksburg? Evidently there is a nice...

    Bid Up questions and experiences

I'm planning a round trip PGH-WAS on the Capitol in a couple of weeks, by coach obviously. I've never participated in Bid Up before, but seriously thinking as I get closer to bidding up for kicks on a roomette either way, presuming it can be gotten at a reasonable price. I figure there may be...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

Evidently the rumors of Superliners' demise on the Capitol Limited are yet to materialize. I am making plans for two trips west this fall, in Sept. and Oct. from Pittsburgh. All dates I have looked at show Superliner equipment available. While I am a Superliner fan, I was hoping for a second...

    Next Gen Equipment Committee Website

I find it amazing the one of the officers is from Iowa DOT, which likely would never pay a dime for Amtrak service.

Uhhhh, not to start this spinning off kilter but I am not so sure this is a very wise idea. 🤨

    Wash Racks and dirty equipment

This long distance train IS an Amtrak priority.

New Gulf Coast service (New Orleans - Mobile and Baton Rouge)

It will be killed. A certain attitude dominates here with a certain way of thinking in a state not known for progressive attitudes by favoring select culture wars and societal priorities. Little else matters.

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

I agree this is frustrating but I always say to myself, better to be moving than not at all. The worst is just sitting for 30-45-60 minutes or longer.

    Cardinal discussion

This is made possible in large part to my alma mater, Miami University. It is has always had a large contingent of students from greater Chicago, so I expect the Cardinal's ridership will be positively influenced by this stop.
