I am more concerned with missing an urgent call from family or having to make one. I think of it as a tool - and a cellphone can be a lot more valuable than duct tape or disinfectant wipes or a pry bar or ... when an urgent situation occurs elsewhere.

It only counts as a "not very busy station" if you're not the one in a wheelchair. And if they're not very busy, why not carry a lift in the baggage car that can be deployed with a winch so it can serve those not-very-busy stations the few times they are needed? And why fail to provide reports...

It's not only some homeless who steal to sell. Gangs, addicts (of both alcohol and drugs - with jobs or without), the very poor who sacrifice food and necessities to avoid being homeless, the greedy, the opportunists who see an easy way to make more, etc. Even the rich steal - they just don't do...

Generally, the Crescent gets terminated at Atlanta for certain days (weekends?) this time of year for NS "track work". It may be that combined with the shortages that caused Amtrak to dump the route.

You forget that these "meals" preceded Covid so that argument doesn't hold unless you are agreeing that Amtrak cut the staff too much to provide sufficient service to customers then decided not to restore enough people to do it right. That was deliberate on their part.
