You could fight it. Contact Customer Relations and complain. Demand compensation. If it is insufficient or refused, then file for arbitration against Amtrak since Amtrak says that checked bag service is available.

First, there is an incentive for Amtrak - customer service and the convenience of passengers. Please don't forget that. It could be a big selling point for Amtrak to have that feature. Second, we have no idea what that effort would cost because we don't know how it could be best implemented...

There used to be a tourist railroad that ran between Santa Fe and Lamy called Santa Fe Southern". They died off a number of years ago. They have come back from the dead as Sky Railway and my brother in Santa Fe says they run regularly with dinner trains and a lot more!

Black beans - that's one of those California infestations into the Santa Fe area. Everywhere else in NM, you get refritos - refried beans mostly mashed. The best is the dinner of chile rellenos - [Preferably hot] NM chiles roasted, skin peeled, filled with cheese, dipped in a corn meal...

I have never used flip flops on Amtrak. The shower is clean.

That's not the primary reason and we have never used it that way. We use it to meet up with others (usually family) boarding at a later station and traveling with us.

I agree with zephyr7 as to the restrooms. Use downstairs ones. They get much less use both because there are three vs one upstairs and because most people are upstairs and don't want to go downstairs. We didn't mind. It's the only exercise you'll get on the train other than exercising your moth...

It's the railroads' version of firing most of their Customer Service staff and replacing them with the "...We are experiencing a high volume of calls so your wait time ..."
