    Diner using wrong room number

The same penalty as any other theft. Only, the crew might let you off the train with the Podunk Police Department and that would be no fun - so far away from home.

Taking a trip on the Crescent - Now, you tell me!

No but they do claim to have al alternative. See this page and click on "49". NORTA

Two different headlines on Brightline accident

But the car driver has a chance (albeit possibly to little of one) to maneuver or brake to avoid the accident. The train cannot do anything but attempt to do full braking and pray. Moreover, going onto the tracks when the lights are on and gates are down is patently illegal everywhere. With car...

What are the most scenic Amtrak routes?

Since some of scenic America is beginning to look like the backyards of the Northeast, I see no difference. Nothing more natural than watching someone on an old chair in their backyard while they are guzzling a Shlitz.

    Lake Shore Limited timetable change

Amtrak thinks that negotiation means giving the Class 1s anything they want in the vain hope of getting some consideration on time slots some day. Look at the Crescent disaster - Amtrak gave up everything and got nothing in return. Have you heard of a single complaint to the STB over the...

"Earn 5X Points this Holiday Season"

It's BoA. I think the last deal took so long, I couldn't remember why the points showed up my account.

    Crescent Update, 12/2021

You can get your dream trip on the Crescent any time you want it - lease a private car for the trip! Other than that, you can wait until hell freezes over (with climate change, that might not take too many years) for Amtrak to provide real service.

    Amtrak Christmas Gifts

I got some stuff for steam engines for Christmas - top that! It was coal. :) My wife loves me so much, she just thinks of the neatest things! Next year she said she'd get me water and lubricant.

Rules regarding Diner doubling as a lounge

They don't have to pay Amtrak's high prices for transportation. In fact, surprisingly enough, their company pays them to travel.

    Red Cap Situtation in Chicago

We were there in late October and early November (once in each direction) getting off the train with heavy luggage for two old people and she has knee problems. It would have been a LONG wait for redcap service and with other trains arriving shortly after we did, we knew that we'd never get a...

Two different headlines on Brightline accident

NBC News: Two killed in Florida train crash after car ignores crossing gate Fox News: 2 killed after Florida high-speed train hits car on railroad crossing north of Miami One makes it clear where the fault lies. The other does not. Sad that some companies mislead the public so often. One has...

CSX and NS blatantly lie to STB again

On the other hand, CSX and NS may be thinking that if they can lie and appeal long enough until a new administration takes over in 3 years that was pro private industry and anti-Amtrak or even one more year if a different party takes over control of both houses of congress and who answer to a...

Crescent ATL-NOL: Is Roomette worth it?

What @Sidney meant was that, given that the "meals" you get for all that extra money in a roomette, it makes buying one much less of a value. Now had Amtrak still had to traditional meals and the traditional times, you could have a steak dinner, delicious breakfast, good burger lunch and an...

Raising Amtrak routes above future sea level

Would it really make a difference? The cities and towns will be flooded so unless local transit consists of ferry boats, there would be no need for the train anyway. Moving or raising the tracks is nickel-dime in cost vs moving the cities or even building giant walls around them and their...

What are the most scenic Amtrak routes?

It's not an Amtrak route. (see the title of the thread). It doesn't even run in the same country as Amtrak (except for the new one in Colorado/Utah). It is designed to run only on scenic portions of a route. It's a TOURIST train, not a train transporting passengers for the purpose of getting...

How would you feed your train?

I'd feed my train by giving plenty of diesel fuel for the engine, lots of water for the cooling system, and plenty of oil and lubricating products to keep it in good condition. I'd also be sure it has regular visits to the train doctor.

Crescent ATL-NOL: Is Roomette worth it?

I remember when the roomette was a $50 add-on between ATL and NOL and included three real meals. $50/pp for rail cost and $50 more for room for two with the meals. Did that a number of times. BR was usually around $75-$150. About 10 years ago.

Suggestions for 5 hour stop in RNO?

So how do they handle Breakfast and lunch onboard while sitting in Reno? Still provide them at the same hours? End breakfast early and start lunch late? Dump them both and tell people they are on their own? Can one board and get off at will while the train is sitting in the station?

Taking a trip on the Crescent - Now, you tell me!

We've given up on the Crethent (Sorry, that was from the Ithaca forum) Crescent because of the horrible hours and the continued delays. Until Amtrak executives visit Oz to get a brain, we'll stick to Greensboro to go north towards DC and NYC and beyond and little Hinton, WV to head to Chicago...

Rules regarding Diner doubling as a lounge

I think it is even more than consistency. It's also about cleanliness, sanitation, and extra work. What's going to stop a passenger sitting in the diner instead of or because there is no room in the SSL from messing things up. From using the napkin or the cutlery, to playing around with thins...
