    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

It looks like what I said about Brightline service to Orlando starting in the summer of 2023 is going to happen after all. Maybe late Summer, but Summer nonetheless. I just hope the testing goes smoothly.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

ADA indeed is very tricky. The door for an elevator must be 36 inches wide, the depth of the elevator car has to be 51 inches deep, and the width must be 68 inches for those of you who are curious. As for whether cars can go 90ft, I'm not sure to be honest. I assume 89 based on the fact that...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

I've always wondered if a bi level design is selected, do all the cars need an elevator or just certain cars need one to meet the ADA requirements? Also something I think should be considered a possibility, is the chance that if a bi-level design is selected, that the car could be slightly...

    Brightline Trains West!

I agree, California is going to be an interesting order as I wonder if they'll go for the Novas as well or get the classic version of the Velaros? One thing I should point out, China Railways has a 10ft 8 1/2 inch wide version of the classic Velaros, so a wider version of those trains can be...

    Brightline Trains West!

I was looking at the specs for the Velaro Novas on Siemen's website and these are going to be some really long trainsets. The 7 car trainsets that Brightline West will be getting is going to be 202 meters long, which equates to about 662 ft 8in long. About the same length as a 7 car ICE 4 train...

SEHSR (South East High Speed Rail) discussions

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I guess these ICE trains climbing and descending a 4% grade on a viaduct is a fluke. Per Reddit, the trains are operating at track speed of 186mph. High speed rail lines are getting very flexible to build these days. The most difficult issues when it...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Amtrak may end up getting both single level and bi level equipment, which they've done before as shown in the 1990s with the Superliner IIs and Viewliner Is. Just something that can't be ruled out either.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Alstom is currently building Metra's replacement bi level coaches using the Coradia family. Maybe they might get to do further business with Amtrak, since they are building the Avelia Liberty. https://www.mytwintiers.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/89/2021/03/Exterior_Metra.png?w=3784

    Brightline Orlando extension

Journalism in general these days is not the best, especially in this state. With that said, Tri-Rail does intend to connect with BL regardless, so they're essentially right in that respect. As for BL's revenue service date, I also could see it happening in Q1 2023 if testing goes smoothly.

    Brightline Orlando extension

You got lucky, I've been in several situations where the buses showed up even later then that or didn't show up at all, but I didn't have to use Sunrail during those times as I was heading home in those situations. A bus driver several years ago admitted to everyone on his bus that I was on that...

    Brightline Orlando extension

It's not that bad as the airport isn't far from the Sand Lake Road station. The bus only took a good ten minutes to get there when I last did it and quite a lot of people do those type of commuters based on personal experience. Changing the subject back to Brightline, I also doubt it'll open by...

    Brightline Trains West!

The ICE trains in Germany have no problem doing 300kmh/186mph on this 4% grade up and down the Hallerbach Viaduct as shown in this video. This is on the Cologne–Frankfurt high speed rail line, which opened up 20 years ago. The Siemens Velaros will have no problem maintaining track speed up and...

Viewliners and Superliners ... what would you change?

Most were around 80ft long or a little more or less then that. I know Pullman standard weights (what they called heavyweights back then) were of a standard length of about 82ft long. 60ft cars were more of the Harriman lines style, although one can argue that the Harriman passenger cars were the...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

I know a few years isn't a lot of time, but its incredible how quickly the second phase to Orlando has progressed. After all the remaining construction wraps up the testing phase will begin. Glad we're all here to see this.
