Private Car Pair on Amtrak #5(21)

The westbound California Zephyr that left Chicago on Sunday has a pair of private cars on the end. They are the dome car Charter Club and the observation car St. James Place. Also unusual, there was no baggage car on the train.

    California Zephyr discussion

So it looks like yesterday, Wednesday, a #5 and a #6 were disrupted by mudslides in the Rocky Mountains. Today, as stated, a #5 and #6 were disrupted by flooding which resulted in them taking a detour route in Nebraska that skipped the stops at Hastings, Holdrege, and McCook.

    Following Anniversary Engine #164

Looks like 164 is sticking with the Zephyr for a while. I caught it Monday evening leading Amtrak #5(15) east of Ottumwa, Iowa.

    Following Anniversary Engine #164

Here is a thread for following Phase IV-painted anniversary engine AMTK 164. No, that's not a typo. After the Phase IV unit AMTK 184 was repainted into Phase V back in March, Beech Grove repainted 164 in Phase IV. 164's first trip was leading Amtrak #5(09), the westbound California Zephyr. I...

    Following Anniversary Engine #184

The Phase IV unit is dead. Long live the Phase IV unit. AMTK 164 has been released from Beech Grove repainted into the Phase IV livery. So who makes the "Following Anniversary Engine #164" thread?

There has been another collision between a test train and a vehicle. This was at Mobile on Wednesday. Worse, this time there was a fatality in the car. Looks like the car burst into flame upon impact...

AMTK 328 and 329 have been released from the factory. Worldwide Trains & Airplanes caught the light power move at Rodeo, California (and it looks like 329 has a non-working marker light).

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I caught #6(23) Sunday morning running nineteen hours and forty-six minutes late out of Ottumwa, Iowa. In addition to the UP freight engine and the new Chargers, I also noticed the train was using a flashing rear-end device instead on the usual marker lights on the end. Andy S later filmed...

At some point, one of #6(23)'s Genesis engines was replaced with a Union Pacific locomotive. High Plains Model Railroad Club filmed it passing though Bartley, Nebraska on Saturday. As of this writing, the train was nineteen and a half hours late out of Lincoln, Nebraska.

AMTK 326 and 327 are on the move eastward on Amtrak #6(23). Adam Ghimenti caught this California Zephyr yesterday in West Sacramento, California. Presently, this train is running over twelve hours late due to a "mechanical issue" that happened while the train was crossing Nevada.
