    Brightline Trains West!

Thats still going to happen at some point in the future with High Desert Corridor being the connecting link. LA metro might end up funding that line

FRA's Corridor ID Program and possible new Corridors

Desert wind and Pioneer are both LD routes, I'm not surprised the state didn't win money. I'm more surprised North Coast Hiawatha got money. SLC to LA is 800 miles while SLC to Seattle is over 1000.

Federal-State Partnership Grants for the National Network 12/8/2023

California and Virginia/North Carolina really took home the fed money this year. Happy to see money advancing high speed and higher speed rail

    Brightline Trains West!

Its nothing new, we know BLW was looking at a Siemens Velaro Nova, they've just now rebranded the unit for NA

    California HSR

They can't easily pull money they already got given.

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

You can do entirely PTC based signals and drop lineside to be extra cheap or just not care and limit pax to 60mph and freight to 50mph I'd expect 2-3m a mile

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

Rebuilding the line is going to be major work, might as well start fresh with concrete ties, CWR and 15,000ft passing sidings every 12mi. Given UP won't even spend the money to finish double tracking the sunset route I'm doubtful they'd rebuild a large section of main track for 1 Z train a day.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area service

Dual gauge is out because BART can't mix with mainline stock. They were at one point considering doing both mainline and BART but dropped that due to cost and believing that just 1 would deliver enough capacity. We have the 90s studies to outline what likely should be done. Coast Rail...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

I disagree some sort of budget sleeping option coming back is a must, they weren't extremely popular for no reason. in room toilets and showers are normally not a good choice as they take up too much space. better to have 2 of each at 1 end of the car.

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

Amtrak pacific surfliner will be running but not stopping at LAU instead it will be a shuttle bus from Glendale to LAU. Theres 5 trains into LA from Simi and 5 trains and one bus from LA. The local bus option wouldn't be fun even if you wanted to take it, Simi Valley route 10 to LA metro G...

Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area service

it doesn't even need to be new cars but some plan even to rebuild commuter cars would at least show they've thought about the rolling stock issue.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area service

San Jose to Moorpark needs to be bought but its probably going to come at a .8-1B price tag for the 400 miles. We already have the conceptual plans to speed the line upto 110mph. Competing cargo wise is going to be a hard sell unless we see the state create its own shortline as UP will likely...

Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area service

I'd question just how many private sleeper cars are left that you could lease that have anything other than large rooms.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area service

The lack of rolling stock will kill this service unless they are going to completely rebuild 15-20 heritage cars or maybe take old commuter cars gut them and use them as the basis. Ether way rolling stock in NA is tight right now and won't get better for 3-5 years. Sac to LA was a sleeper train...

Michigan Service 355 derailment in New Buffalo, MI

Dispatching center error played part in Amtrak collision and derailment in Michigan - Trains Dispatch was having issues trying to figure out which crossing it was and so they called the wrong railroad. Emergency crews just need to get in the habit of calling the number themselves. Wow amtrak...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Be interesting if Amtrak decides to use the mini cabins as a slumbercoach like car replacement, I think 40-44 pods along with 1-2 bathrooms and a shower should fit into the standard 80ft a car with 1 door gets. I doubt they would do it as a bi level but then I think we could see around 60.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

I think the closes we will get to a dome is the mostly wrap around windows found on sightseer cars and outdoor segments are likely a risk amtrak doesn't want to take

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

I would have thought they run the startlight to Glendale given thats where all the LAU shuttle buses are running to for Surfliners going north
