Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

How many superliners has amtrak sold off over the years or scrapped? I know they've sold at least 8 to one company and I believe a museum has another 2

Status of Surfliner Service between Oceanside and Irvine

Full Sierra siding and the San Juan Creek bridge replacement would be real nice about now.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

the US has mostly changed that now with FRA T1 alternative for trains under 125mph and FRA T3 for above 125mph. Both are based on the EU crash standards with some minor modifications.

    Brightline Trains West!

Metrolink and brightline will have timed transfers which is why they dropped from 45mins to hourly to start

Question about Amtrak locomotive emission strategy

yes. The chargers are meeting T4 vs T0 or T0+ like the P42. the F59phi are also gone which were T0 although they had an easy path to T3. This is not blended diesel with renewable but pure renewable. B20 has been cleared for a long time

    Brightline Trains West!

They won't be for now, San Bernardo line has major capacity issues with long single track sections that are a challenge to fix given the location. be interesting to see if the state law that says just hands the high desert corridor to brightline along with some LA metro money will pass.

    Sunset Limited discussion

Its likely after the coast starlight issue they've been pulling what superliners they can towards that service over the sunset limited. As railcars reenter service over the next year it should become less of an issue.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Stadler, Alstom. Siemens has a lot on their plate already and so I'm doubtful they'll want more Stadler would need to expand their plant but thats fairly simple for them, and get car shells made here which was in the planning if a large order came.

NS PTC failure on 8/28/23 affecting all NS routes

I'd personally go for a 3 headed system here so you can take 1 offline for upgrades and then not be at risk of failing. It really isn't that hard to do now with the ability to lease large amounts of data center space from companies. It just requires not being cheap. Atlanta, Cincinnati and...

    The Electrification discussion

The real cost is labor not materials. the UK cost are like 92% labor.

    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

Hopefully cascades will get some of the horizon cars previously stored that are expected to reenter service in the next year.

    The Electrification discussion

The UK cost are a bit all over the place because they keep starting and stopping rolling programs. Recent projects end up being around 3m a STM if I remember right. The goal for the US should be under 1.5M a STM mile putting us right in line with most countries worldwide. The only way we will...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

23 superliners 12 of which were wrecked coming back into service is good. We know 14 of the 23 cars wonder what the other 9 are going to be. I'd still like to see the state of CA pay for 3 transdorms and 5 sleepers to be put into service so we can use them on a sleeper train on the coast.

Reserve Fleet, Retention Toilets and such logistical matters

Working on the tracks should not come with the risk of bio hazards. Amtrak should have just rebuild those cars along with more of the heritage sleeper fleet. They could have pulled out 1-2 rooms and put the bathroom in a single place to make it easier to convert.

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

Knowing SP I wouldn't be surprised if it was a mix of whatever rail they had lying around mixed with a few patches of new rail. That is one of the few reasons I could see it being rated faster, the line after a complete rebuild could easily be 90 or 110mph but 110mph comes with the all active...

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

The lines in a state where it needs a complete rebuild, UP just uses it mostly to store cars and switch some industries. Because of some of those it might be class 2 track in segments. It needs new rail to replace the jointed rail unless someone wants to weld in place the rail into very long...

    The Electrification discussion

CARB won't fund it but they will allow units rebuilt to T3 to last longer than the T0 units in service now. even with full plate H at 20.25ft 25kv overhead lines can be at 22ft just fine and thats without some of the UK clearance tools that allow them to get insanely close

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

They could go ventures or order another batch of viewliners for eastern LD fleet, ideally whatever they pick it will have coaches, better lounge cars and something like slumber cars, high density sleeping cars good for an overnight trip
