Interesting US Passenger Rail Service Visualization Maps

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024 H1

How are extreme delays like this handled network-wise? Does Amtrak have a spare Superliner trainset in Chicago?

    Amtrak Thruway Bus discussion

Hello, That's a Pacific Surfliner thruway bus, which can only be booked in connection with a train (here you'd have to have your ticket begin in Grover Beach, one stop before San Luis Obispo where the bus originates).

Comparison of public funding for Amtrak vs. public funding for European passenger rail - Amtrak OIG analysis

Amazing how not once the authors did mention the number of passengers in each system, let alone give the amount of subsidies per passenger...

What are the United States' peers in rail and transit around the world?

As long as Hartford to Philadelphia, but also as wide as New York City to Scranton. So sure, the frequency of train services along the Hartford - Philadelphia line is quite comparable to what you can have in the Netherlands, but if you try going inlands away from that line... that's not the same...

What are the United States' peers in rail and transit around the world?

I think that the US should not be taken as a whole for this question, as you can find there both densely populated areas and quite empty areas. If you take the NEC for example, which has a population of 50M in a 56k sq mi area, you could compare it to some European countries like Italy (same...

How do I view the California Zephyr route map on google maps?

It won't So it will tell you you're somewhere in the US based on your public IP address, and that's about it. Are you talking about Garmin Express? If so it won't, it's just there to update the GPS device. Same, it won't.

How do I view the California Zephyr route map on google maps?

It will actually usually use the surrounding WiFi networks for that, as it's much faster and precise enough (Google has over the years built a database of the location of WiFi APs in the world, using both their Google Street Cars when mapping the world and the Android devices of Android users)...

AS Flight1282: Another Boeing 737 MAX crisis

True for easyJet, but Ryanair had lots of issues with crew rest and pilots being disciplined for go-arounds, diversions, or wanting to carry extra fuel... “Mayday Mayday” wins over Ryanair defamation allegations Ryanair is on my personal "airline blacklist" for lots of reasons, including this...

AS Flight1282: Another Boeing 737 MAX crisis

Well most airlines make a profit, so I'll have to disagree on that. What's reflected though is the complete absence of taxes on the kerosene, but that's another topic.

AS Flight1282: Another Boeing 737 MAX crisis

Well, did they know even about it? Is this even part of the testing during aircraft design? I'm far from convinced about this... EDIT: Seems that it's actually done on purpose, the locking mechanism has a feature that will unlock the door in case of a sudden pressure change. This is to prevent...
