Seamless fare collection systems in US/Canadian cities in 2022

You'll find that, but in Europe: - the Netherlands has a single fare system for every bus/tram/subway/train (except some international long-distance) in the country. Oh, and it gives you access to bike-sharing at train stations as well OV-chipkaart - Everything about travelling - Austria offers...

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

Surprising to hear. But still, I don't think that places should have in mind "accomodating English only-speaking people" when deciding on how to name a place. Two things come to my mind when I read this: - Montréal deciding to name a new train station with a different name than the old one...

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

Gare Windsor still exists at its initial location. The new station has been renamed gare Lucien L'Allier to prevent confusion between the two. How would "Lucien L'Allier" confuse any anglophone? Cultural dominance? Because a province of 7M French speaking Quebecers (85% of the population)...

It was named Windsor until 2001, then renamed Lucien L'Allier.

    France bans short-haul flights

Yes, except there's no equivalent of "TSA PreCheck", everyone has to go through the same hassle. Oh, and they don't care about your ID, just about your belongings.

    France bans short-haul flights

Train schedules don't vary by more than a few minutes, and France has picked 2.5 hours also because there's no "borderline" situation with that duration in France.

    France bans short-haul flights

I was making a list with a hypothetical high-speed train service between the mentioned cities :)

    France bans short-haul flights

Assuming you mean "flights", at least BOS <> NYC+PHL, NYC <> PHL+BWI+WAS, also PDX <> SEA. SFO / SAC <> LAX would be a little over 2.5 hrs.

    Progress of Caltrain Electrification

So... this happened. Apparently, electrification crew were on the tracks while trains were still running. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2022/03/10/caltrain-collision-with-vehicle-causes-huge-fire-on-tracks-in-san-bruno/

    European Overnight Trains

Snälltåget's "Krogen" looks pretty decent to me ;) https://www.snalltaget.se/en/the-pub In my opinion especially in the age of COVID there is a clear market for more up market single person bedrooms. The (i) link on the booking options page seems to explain it in detail: Travel categories...

    European Overnight Trains

It is still running, but it's not and has never been an overnight train :)

    European Overnight Trains

Renfe has discontinued all Trenhotels services, only "luxury" trains remain. Can you tell which, so that the author can add them on the map?

    European Overnight Trains

For those who'd like, Europe : Night Trains has an up-to-date map of night trains in Europe (only solid lines are night trains, dashed lines are daytime) http://www.night-trains.com/files/night-trains-europe-map.png

    European Overnight Trains

Not exactly (but that doesn't change the outcome): Thello was operating a night train, Paris-Milan-Venice, and a non-high-speed daytime train, Marseille-Nice-Milan. Both have been discontinued, and Thello has been renamed Trenitalia France (Trentalia has been their sole owner since 2016). They...

Two different headlines on Brightline accident

That's also how most situations where a car driver hits a pedestrian/cyclist are reported: you'll often read that the victim has been struck by a car in an accident, without a mention about the driver, and whether he may be at fault (an accident happens when every reasonable step had been taken...

Greetings from a new member (with an AT cancellation question)

Greetings from a new member (with an AT cancellation question)

The refund policy is that of the customer ticket with which the vehicle (automobiles, motorcycles) or add-on (golf bags, bikes, pets) fee ticket is associated. Example: For reservations with a bedroom and automobile on Auto Train, the sleeping accommodation refund policy also applies to the...
