Considering you can get $19 NER tickets ($10 on a late-night train) for a journey only ~20 min longer I'd stick with the NER. NYP to PHL is too short for me to consider the Acela over the NER.

Ahh an Acela ticket I booked for 249 dropped down to 58 today I booked at 30% full and it dropped at 40% full, isn't that great? Gotta constantly keep my eye on these fluctuating prices.

I've noticed this also happens around UB graduation and the start of the fall semester. It seems like the city doesn't have enough capacity for peak demand. Prices go way above what they should for a city like that.
