Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Wow I can't believe it was 3 years ago it's been taking a long time for Amtrak's new fleet to roll out

    Ticket now or later?

If you're ok with an e-voucher I'd say book now and keep an eye on the price. If the price goes down just change your reservation to the same train. But at least if you're ok with the current price then you don't have to worry about it going up. I've saved around $500 this year by doing that on...

    Viewliner Bag-Dorm layout

The best I could find for you right now is this Source: AMTRAK CAF VIEWLINER 2 INTERIORS and this old post on the forum. Source: Viewliner II Bag-Dorm roomettes Seems like both diagrams contradict so I'd go with the bottom one since it was from someone who has helped me on the forums and...

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

Now that you've mentioned it I've never had any issues with the app. But yeah aside from NER reservations I usually booked everything online. Dropping a couple hundred or a grand on apple pay seems odd to me.

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

It's a good tool and I'm grateful it exists but it's too minimal for how I search for trips. Often it's faster for me to use the site since I can look only 11 days or something from the start date. But usually, I'm spanning months at a time and I can't check every weekend for the next month on a...

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

Welp at this point it's so tricky to get a low bucket fare it might as well be a profession. It's too bad we don't have a Google trains to track prices.

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

If that's true how do we figure out when they come out? I'm looking as far out as the system lets me and the Cardinal is at the mid bucket and the LSL is at the high bucket.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion

As of late no, but I’ve never been on that train without seeing the second sleeper be a Viewliner II 4912/4812. From my experience most trains that use Viewliner II’s will have the Viewliner II at the back of the train.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I feel like this has always been the case for me whenever I ride on FC or a sleeper. It's rare I see anyone even near my age in anything but coach. It makes sense because my generation tends to be more frugal, for me I only have the ability to do this because I got lucky during the pandemic and...

Splitting ticket between coach and sleeper

They can give me attitude and I can forgo giving them their tip afterward. Either way happy or not to do it it's still their job.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Nope, any time you arrive or depart a station. Go as much as you like. Thanks, if the lounge is unstaffed are we still allowed to enter in the morning?

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Just let them scan the QR code when you're going to the lounge. It's valid whenever you have a train leaving from or arriving at that station.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

I was just more interested in seeing the interior and maybe getting a coffee. I do plan on being on 500, in hopes of catching a talgo.

Splitting ticket between coach and sleeper

If it makes you feel better the Youtuber Simply Railways has done something like this too.

Splitting ticket between coach and sleeper

I doubt it, I've done split ticketing before not with the coach and a sleeper, but with 2 coach tickets wasn't an issue. I just let the conductor know I had 2 tickets for the same train, I was arriving at the destination of my first ticket when it was scanned so they just scanned both.

    Night Owl Fares on NEC

I just got a $5 same-day ticket today and went straight to the lounge, I got my money back in snacks 😂

    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

I guess if I were to do it I’d have to be quick and before everyone else gets on. But I would definitely be very unhappy if I was forced to ride backwards because of crew negligence.

    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

Do you think passengers would be allowed to flip the seats themselves? I'd flip everyone's seats for them if it allows us to sit forward.

    Midwest Venture introduction

There's a wide range of services and split points that could potentially work like New Haven, Philly, and DC/Richmond. That's a shame more fleet flexibility would generally be a better thing.

    Midwest Venture introduction

Yeah I guess at short platforms either the train would have to stop twice or passengers would have to get in a specific set before hand.
