    Traveling with a mobility scooter

This information is incredibly detailed and useful. Would it be possible, mods, for it to be copied into a sticky item under Amtrak information, so that it is more easily found by those who might need it?

Cannabis testing and its effects on Amtrak hiring

No question there needs to be a better test for marijuana than the current ones, which don't detect impairment. A lawyer friend of mine used Washington-legal marijuana products during her cancer chemo, and as a result needed to take taxis and Ubers to and from work for several months after her...

Amtrak cancels Sleeper reservation on the Cardinal

Sheesh, if those of us with more experience can't get appropriate assistance in these circumstances, the inexperienced passenger will be toast!

    New Traditional Dining Menu

Honestly, I would be fine with limiting desserts to dinner service, since most folks don't have desserts with their lunch outside of Amtrak-world, I suspect. That way there would likely be enough desserts for dinner service. Of course, YMMV on that!

No Hold Music (on AGR SE line)?

Dropping the hold music would be music to my ears! Given the audio quality of phones these days, whatever muzak they play is out of tune anyway.

    New Traditional Dining Menu

Rode the Coast Starlight end to end from Seattle last week, and they were using the new menu as the paper menu; however, they had none of the new desserts or entrees, and only two of the new appetizers--the coconut shrimp was not available. The brie and raspberry empanada was not bad, but the...

    New Traditional Dining Menu

I'm on the CS day after tomorrow, so I'll report back if the new menu is in place or not. I'm happy to see them switching things up, though, since any menu gets tedious even eating your favorite items after awhile. I very much agree that Amtrak is missing a potential revenue source by not...

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

No, it's the difference between the train time and far and the air time and fare. Sure, we could simply cut our vacation by a day and save the money by staying home. Who needs vacation time, right? Well, we did enough staying-at-home the last couple of years that we wanted to maximize our...

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

I know we've had a number of posts regarding Amtrak sleeper prices, and I do appreciate that, in times where everything is getting pricey, Amtrak sleepers have priced themselves beyond many of us. But, here is one little data point: We are taking our nine year old daughter to Disneyland from...

    Senior transit fares and cards

This is how the process worked a couple of years ago; I assume it still works that way, or at least I hope it does. Click on this link for a senior reduced fare card: Instructions - REDUCED FARE PORTAL It should link to an application, which you can upload together with a PDF or JPEG of a...

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

WashDOT is furious with Amtrak over the newly announced delay in resuming the Cascades to Vancouver BC, because the Cascades can't cover the Washington stops north of Seattle till Vancouver is back. Ironically, the quotes from WashDOT in the Seattle Times (firewalled, sorry) complain that...

    Seattle King Street Station question

The walk from King St. Station to the International District Light Rail is quicker if you can leave the station via the second floor exit onto the plaza. For a while, that exit was closed, so I would inquire of someone at the station. Also, I happened to walk by that route last week and a...

Gas prices where you are located?

wonder at what point increased profits goes from being a sign of good management and becomes "greed". Seems somewhat subjective. Well, when commodities are in short supply because of wartime, we tend to call increased profits "profiteering." Seems the shoe fits here...

Gas prices where you are located?

Prices at the station across the street from my university jumped 50 cents to 5.49 a gallon this week. Can't point to a reason why, since crude oil prices drifted down a little. Wait till school gets out in June--it'll be crazy, I think. Or rather, crazier...

    Leaving plane at intermediate stop?

I'm surprised at those defending the airlines in these cases. These are adhesion contracts, with no meaningful choice by consumers. For example, in the Before Times, I wanted to fly from Seattle to Tokyo and back. My only choice was Delta from Seattle, and given their monopoly position, the...

Safe places to stay by Los Angeles Union Station (LAUS)

The trouble with the Metroplaza, if the surrounding area is becoming less safe at least in appearance is that the Coast Starlight often arrives quite late in the evening. In the past, I've not hesitated to walk from Union Station even past 10 pm. But that was then and this is now--and I can...

Safe places to stay by Los Angeles Union Station (LAUS)

I'd like a recent report on the Metroplaza too. I'm planning a trip with my little granddaughter and I need to reassure her parents that the trip there is safe. I may have to splurge on the Biltmore and cabs, it looks like. We've stayed at the Metroplaza on a number of occasions pre-COVID...

Possible trip on the Amtrak Cascades

In Tacoma, I would recommend the Museum of Glass and its stunning Glass Bridge. Lots of Dale Chihuly's work, as you might expect, but lots of other, less well-known, glass artists represented, too. Also there is a large 'hot shop' with comfortable amphitheater seating where you can watch glass...
