Three adults into a Bedroom for a daytime trip

A Family Bedroom can accommodate 4 individuals, but #3 & 4 had better be short, because those 3rd & 4th beds are intended for children. I remember watching a YouTube video of a family (2 adults + 2 kids) who boarded the northbound Coast Starlight in Emeryville for an overnight trip; the mom...

Metra service between Chicago and Rockford to begin in 2027

The "Illinois Policy Morning Briefing" email newsletter this morning had a link to a Daily Herald article wondering where a Metra station in Huntley along the Chicago-Rockford route could be placed...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H2

Agreed; the food is more important than what it's served on.

    Emeryville, California layover question

Those Emery-Go-Round shuttles remind me of the free KC Trolley the hubby and I made use of when we rode the Lincoln Service/Missouri River Runner to Kansas City last year. Having free, safe transportation from the Amtrak station allowed us to consider a wider range of hotels, at more affordable...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H2

We started with a set of the white-with-blue-rings Corelle, and supplemented with a set of the all-white as more of the old stoneware dishes broke. (With 5 in the family, we couldn't go all Corelle at a meal until we purchased that second set.)

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H2

One would get a bit closer to that $90 amount at slightly more upscale fast-food places, such as Hardee's/Carl's Jr., Arby's, or especially someplace like Five Guys.

We switched from stoneware to Corelle at home when our kids were still growing up, and had far fewer broken-plate incidents when the kids helped with dishwashing.

    Midwest Venture discussion 2023 Q3 -2024

This might explain the reports I've heard of Venture business class cars being used for coach seating.

    Emeryville, California layover question

"Friendly stegosaurus" here. I've never yet used Uber or Lyft, and don't know how, so a real taxi or public transportation would be more familiar options for me.

Individualized bonus points offered in Fall Travel promotion

No points used for the hubby's & my trip next month, as we didn't have enough points to use just AGR points, and the "use points + cash" thing didn't start until 2 months after we had booked our tickets.

Individualized bonus points offered in Fall Travel promotion

2X - but does this apply to already-booked travel which takes place during the promotional period? I registered for the promotion just in case, but the email address about the promotion is a "no reply", directing customers to the "Contact Us" page on the Amtrak website, and the chatbot at...

    What should Amtrak change?

I saw a few "self-inflating camping pads" on Amazon which included customer reviews indicating they had been purchased specifically for use on Amtrak. However, I think the hubby and I will do without such things for our Texas Eagle trip next month. Since we'll only be going southbound as far...

    What should Amtrak change?

I haven't been in the sleeping car on Amtrak in over 40 years (and that was in Slumbercoach, and I was in my 20s at the time), so I'll have to take the word of others as to how comfortable/uncomfortable mattresses are in the sleepers currently. I remember my son quickly added a mattress topper...

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

On the Texas portion of the route (until it joins the Sunset Limited), it could have a Spanish nickname as "La Aguilita". (Which could also work as a "filk song" to the tune of "Adelita," if someone could come up with appropriate lyrics.) If it were to attain the dignity of other Western LD...

Freight shutdown due to strike in Canada

The news report I saw (via "The Flyover" email newsletter) claimed that commuter rail had been impacted by the strike/lockout. If this is so, would the commuter rail referred to in the news report include VIA Corridor Service trains? Or perhaps just municipal commuter rail service in some of...

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

The date was mentioned up-thread; I think it might be early September. (Haven't yet scrolled up the thread to get the precise date, though.)

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

Probably not, if you booked a through ticket CHI-ELP with no breaks in the journey. Your sleeping car should be moved to the SL at San Antonio, probably while you're sleeping. You will lose electrical power in your room during the transfer, but if you're asleep, you won't care. If any of this...

VIA Rail Canadian and the Canadians

It took me a while to figure out that "Parks Canada Infrastructure" was a separate tab from the pictures of various locations around the town of Jasper. I felt so clueless! Good to see that the station looks all right.

Survey on the future of Amtrak

So maybe the list of towns in each state is like how other surveys list groups of people they don't want to include? (F.ex., if it's a survey about crooked attorneys, the survey organizers probably don't want to have attorneys (or their family members, like me) taking the survey.)

Survey on the future of Amtrak

So I wonder if perhaps the survey is only looking for responses from individuals who live in places which do not currently have Amtrak service?
