AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

We signed up for a couple of streaming services when they had heavily-discounted rates (like $0.99-$1.99/month) during Christmas/New Year's. If we were to switch to using our AGR Mastercard for those services, perhaps we'd lose the discounted rate?

VIA Rail Canadian and the Canadians

Probably close enough. My undergrad college was on the Minnesota/North Dakota border, roughly a 4-5 hour drive due South of Winnepeg, and March could still be pretty cold up there.

VIA Rail Canadian and the Canadians

I'll have to look up YouTube videos from people who have traveled on the Canadian in November and December. I expect a warm coat/hat/gloves would be essential for travel during that period, especially at "fresh air" stops.

Rail tunnel between Spain and Morocco

Tourists in Andalusia often make day trips to Tangier as part of their vacation (as my college group trip did, back in the day). On the other hand, illegal immigration and human trafficking (not just to Spain, but to other European countries via Spain) would become bigger problems if there were...

Rail tunnel between Spain and Morocco

I watched the video, and was impressed with how nice the stations looked. The bilingual Arabic/French signage in the stations was also helpful, as I could guess at the French easily enough (never studied French, but umpteen years of Spanish in high school & college helped). Incredibly cheap...

Rail tunnel between Spain and Morocco

Thanks for all of the added details! Our group trip's train (in 1978) used the Hendaye/Irun crossing heading up to Paris. We had previously also made a day trip Algeciras-Tangier, via ferry both ways. (One would think expanding ferry service between Spain and Morocco would be far more doable...

Rail tunnel between Spain and Morocco

I remember from my college days (in the 1970s) that Iberian gauge vs. standard gauge was an issue for international trains crossing the Pyrenees into France. I earned college credit for a month-long group trip to Spain in 1978, and I believe there was a delay at the French border while our...

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

Check the Grounded Life Travel channel on YouTube (they also have a blog) for their videos discussing Viewliner I and II sleeping car rooms. A bedroom will have more storage space than a roomette (and probably more storage space than a Superliner bedroom). My husband and I plan to each take a...

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

The coach car we were in may have been a Horizon, then (or an Amfleet I). I know we definitely did not have enough room to stretch out, and the hubby and I would swap seats (between each other only, of course) whenever one of us had to get up, just so we could switch which foot was going numb.

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

The Superliner coach seats on the southbound Texas Eagle (as shown in the video at the end of the previous TE thread) seemed to have a LOT more legroom than the older single-level (Amfleet?) coach cars on the Lincoln Service/Missouri River Runner regional train the hubby and I were on last fall...

There are already Corridor trains/combinations of Midwest Corridor trains which can take passengers to Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, and (soon) Minnesota, so why not Indiana as well? I like that idea!

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

I guess we'll find out about lunch on the way back this fall!

That first image reminds me just a bit of the scene from the viaduct tunnel where Dudley Dursley is attacked by dementors, at the beginning of the 3rd or 4th Harry Potter movie, I think. The viaduct was a more confined space, however, which would have made being approached by strangers (of any...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

When the hubby and I ride the Texas Eagle Pontiac, IL-Ft. Worth, TX roundtrip this fall, those are the 2 flex meals we'll be having on the return trip. (On the southbound trip it'll be supper + breakfast + lunch.) Should be interesting to compare the meal presentation on the Eaglette to your...

    Cardinal discussion

I've traveled to Indy a number of times (for GenCon each summer), but always by car rather than by train, and we were never in downtown Indy after dark. I'd have similar safety concerns about arriving at/departing from the Emeryville, CA station (from what I read about it on this forum last...

    Cardinal discussion

I would think that, if passengers with mobility issues were arriving or departing at Indy on a day when the only access between platform and station was via stairs, it would be on Amtrak to find a way to get those particular passengers from point A to point B. If a mobility-impaired passenger...

    Attire on the train?

I remember when I was tutoring my kids after school, one of the Mennonite publishers whose materials I used had Spanish-language editions of many of their publications, so Amish living in Mexico (who their Amish relatives on Amtrak might be going to visit) makes sense, as they'd be using those...

    Attire on the train?

There was an Amish couple on the other side of the aisle in our Coach car on the eastbound Missouri River Runner last fall; can't recall if they continued on the northbound Lincoln Service after St. Louis. They had brought food from home, which looked a lot more appetizing than the Cafe Car...
