Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

"Ladies and Gentleman of the jury, my client, a poor, hardworking pilot who diligently followed his career, was placed in a corner by a greedy corporation that pushed him incessantly to perform and work, heedless of the stresses this would place on his mental health..."

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Well, that is an ironic statement given your username!

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Well, it seems like there are a lot more facts in. I hope this guy gets a good lawyer.

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

I am not specifically worried about myself on a flight. I am more asking structural questions about whether the security measures at airports are more apparent. While pilots might be rigorously tested and monitored, I can imagine many ways that ground crews or staff could have access to ways...

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Assuming that the facts, as reported so far, are true and complete. I have already considered several alternate theories that, while far-fetched, are still possible.

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Two things I considered was that this was a "desperate cry for help", in that he wanted to make a scene in a way that he knew wouldn't actually lead to any injuries. Edited to add: since the man was a pilot, if he really wanted to cause a disaster, he could have done it any day of the week while...

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Someone can be quite sane and still wish to harm others. The link did say it was not connected to any current geopolitical events. Someone without mental illness can still attempt to harm others, maybe provoked by a life event. All of that is speculation. I guess from a train travel point of...

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

And for that matter, I imagine that the pilots could also reignite the engines relatively quickly. Although the problem isn't just the engines being turned off, but them being turned off by a violent person inside the cockpit. There are also ways that someone at the controls of a train could...

Chile - Santiago Estacion Central by Gustave Eiffel

Along with foreign tourists also being a possible source of train passengers, there are a lot of people living in the Santiago region. There are at least 5 million people living in Santiago, and about 1 million people living in Valparaiso. If even 1% of Santiago's population want to visit...

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/23/us/alaska-airlines-flight-diverted.html This article is surprising and a little confusing to follow, but apparently, an off-duty airline pilot who was ferrying inside the cockpit of a flight tried to shut off the engines but was restrained from doing so, and...

Chile - Santiago Estacion Central by Gustave Eiffel

One reason why rail hasn't taken hold is that bus transport is cheap, efficient and comfortable. And frequent. One stop after Estacion Central is Universidad de Santiago and Terminal Alameda. There are at least two companies offering trips to Valpo or Vina at 15 minute frequencies, for usually...

Chile - Santiago Estacion Central by Gustave Eiffel

I don't know if I just made this up, but I thought one of the reasons for rubber tires is the wide difference in elevation between the ends of the Santiago metro---I just looked and it seems to go between 500 meters in the west and 800 meters in the east. So my idea was that rubber tires allowed...

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

So today, I went to Atlantic Station, the central station, and successfully rode the train! And paid for it! I paid a bit too much, since I only rode for one station, but now I know what a ticket looks like. Also, I was told that photographing and recording could only be done out the windows...

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

I thought those railroad tracks looked narrower, but wondered if it was an optical illusion based on how close they were to the street and sidewalk...but them being smaller makes a lot more sense. I think I will have more information when I get to ride the train more, as well as ride more city...

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

I have been busy with school, but today I took another trip! There are a few things in this video, and several of them are transit related: First, I finally took a city bus for the first time. The rides are cheap, but there are no transfers. There is also no type of contactless card or...

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

I think the reintroduction of the train line is a relatively recent thing. So far I am having a good time here, but there are certainly some adjustments to be made!

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

I haven't taken a bus here yet, but I have noticed a few things. Maybe one thing is very obvious from the picture: that is a very plain white bus! The buses here lack any type of livery, or catchy name. They also don't have route numbers, and there are no schedules or route maps that I can find...

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

The Taiwan train was the old, slow rail to Taidong, I lived here right before they built the HSR. And in Mexico I rode the Train Ligero in Guadalajara.

Trains and transit in Costa Rica

Success! I take a train! I only take it one stop, but now I can say I have ridden trains in six countries (The US, Taiwan, Canada, Chile, Mexico and Costa Rica), and I can add it to my sig line! It has been a long day, and in fact a long week, so this video is short and I don't have a lot to...
