    Capitol Limited discussion

You're lucky it's that big. The last time I saw it, the train had 1 engine, 1 coach, 1 diner and 1 sleeper! I've seen bigger engine movements!

NEC state of good repair work and planned service expansion

You're looking at the wrong train station. Old Saybrook is between Brook and View. 6 track is in New London train station and it is a doozy. I was talking to a friend of mine and she casually pointed out something I never really thought about. It literally drops you in the middle of a grade...

    Careers with Amtrak

I guess we'll find out if you're ok soon enough, but if it makes you feel better, I don't believe they are doing hair samples these days.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Unless something dramatic occurs, I'd be surprised if you saw this set in service prior to September 2024. If we're unlikely, it may stretch until 2025. We should see some new testing commence soon though.

Visit to Amtrak Operations Center by The Points Guy

40 office is not the entire dispatching office. 40 office is where the MTOs and upper echelon that sit and they have their own offices. They are not in the pit. Think of it like S office or the Control Center in WTC. It may be easier for you if you just call it the New York Dispatching...

    Veltri Interlocking near Mystic CT?

Similar to this: They are supposed to do some work on Mystic Bridge in the distant future. Even without the work, there have been calls to close the gap between interlockings this territory. With traffic projected to increase, having an 18 mile gap between interlockings is problematic during an...

NS PTC failure on 8/28/23 affecting all NS routes

FYI-This is not just the Piedmonts and the Chicago area. Northeastern trains like Pennsylvanian, the Crescent, the Lynchburger and whatever you call the Norfolk services are impacted as well.

Discussion of NJTransit service expansion like MidTown Direct (MTD)

Midtown Direct was definitely not a mistake. However, as mentioned above, it has been overused, resulting in a lack of network fluidity. The original projections called for 42 trains to operate into NYP. Now, there are over 100 (including deadheads). Hoboken doesn't have the service levels to...

    Careers with Amtrak

That's more in line with being a dispatcher. On the lower NEC, Amtrak typically starts you off as a block operator, then you can apply to become a dispatcher.

    Virginia Service expansion and improvement

It can be one of the other. There's a rail temperature and an ambient temperature. On CSX, it can also be a dramatic temperature change. It any event, since it is public, here is an Amtrak website for some of system rail temperatures.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

I hope they do a robust impact study on the grade crossing closures.

The track is projected to be open tomorrow in time for 49.

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

I'm reasonably sure Byford, and a host of others know what is up with the Aveila sets, what entity has them parked and why they are sitting around. Indeed, just because they were removed from the factory premises, does not mean they were accepted. So, you want to add more, useless stub end...

Silver Star 92 derailed by semi in Lakeland, FL (7-14-23)

I have an opinion, and it may prove to unpopular, but I believe we have someone that may have extensive road experience (looks in the direction of @Just-Thinking-51) to validate or refute my personal observations. That being said, I think there are a few levels of technology that have added...

Washington DC 1st Street Tunnel derailment 7/11/2023

A few trains are doing just that, but you need employees that are qualified on that route to make it happen. CSX pilots are being used, but they don’t have an unlimited supply. Additionally, bypassing WAS isn’t the same as skipping CLT as an example. Not only is it a major crew change point, it...

Amtrak is finally coming to Scranton!

My apologies. I believe I'm thinking of Allentown, which required NS.
