Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023H1)

This is more about balance and insufficient manpower isn't just an issue for the crews. You need personnel at you facilities to service and repair the equipment. That's the point. The removal of the trains will allow a longer slot to get the project back on schedule. Metro-North is already...

SEPTA - New Claymont, DE station coming in 2020

Now, we're going to have always suspected that parking garage would go to waste. I didn't remember the current Claymont "overflowing" under most circumstances. Now, they want to turn the area into a warehouse/truck interchange, which will drive away housing on the land. If this comes to...

NJ transit engineer awarded $11M after passing out

I would think NJT would not appeal this verdict. It seems like it would be a public relations nightmare and they would want to bury it.

Amtrak is finally coming to Scranton!

I'm not sure mixing with NJT is the best idea. especially on this route. I know NS was giving the train a hard way to go, but the M&E has too much traffic to deal with if the Amtrak misses its slot. Heck, it's hard to deal with their traffic on the NEC, where you have 4 to 6 tracks.

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

You are correct when you say they initialize their route to the next crew change. This is due to what you stated about. The train is initialized for the route of the crew. Out west, this may involve more railroads than it does in the East. Here are a few examples. The southbound Auto Train...

    LIRR Service to Grand Central

More than 20% of LIRR trains can’t run in Grand Central Madison tunnel https://gothamist.com/news/more-than-20-of-lirr-trains-cant-fit-into-grand-central-madison-tunnel This is why they couldn't modify the existing tunnel to fit the train of today. I knew the diesel fleet couldn't fit, but...

NJ transit engineer awarded $11M after passing out

I fixed the title, which states the engineer was fined for passing out in the cab...though that DOES sound like something a railroad would do.😇 https://localtoday.news/nj/nj-transit-engineer-fined-11-million-after-passing-out-in-114-degree-locomotive-181447.html NJ Transit engineer fined $11...

SEPTA - New Claymont, DE station coming in 2020

This station looks like it should be complete in the next year or so. However, I don't see ANYTHING being built around it. As of now, it is sitting on the outskirts of a giant dirt lot. Is there any update on the redevelopment of the former Citi Steel site?

SEPTA King of Prussia (KOP) rail project dead

At one point, it was one of the biggest malls on the east coast. Even though the mall itself may soon be obsolete, the parcel of land and area around it is ripe for repurposing. I never considered the shoppers to be that much of an consideration in the scope of the project.

Train Daddy (Andy Byford) is coming to Amtrak!

Although the reasons are varied, it seems to me the trip is taking longer. 😇 At any rate, anyone that comes aboard with actual railroad experience can't hurt.

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

Indeed, Jis. They make the regulations that govern the (non)movement of trains under these circumstances. This is EXACTLY why the FRA has EVERYTHING to do with this mess and has been directly involved in why some train have actually been allowed to depart. What you're leaving out is not too...

Business class on NER 66, 67

Long time, no see MARC Rider. How is I-EMTS working out for you? 😇 AS you mentioned, 151 turns in ROA for 66, which turns in BOS for 67. 67 turns in NPN for 186 on weekdays and 158 on weekends. As you previously mentioned, this would result in a short turn to ND151 in SSY. So.... 151...

The move to HIA should occur this WED.

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car production, delivery, deployment

Saint Marys and Saluda more will emerge next week and follow the usual transportation pattern. This will bring the total number to 11, meaning we are almost halfway through the delivery process. Yet, we have yet to see one in revenue service. Well, at least they are probably nice and shiny. 🤪

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

Umm...like they did with the aforementioned Silver Star, which was nicknamed the Silver Starvation? Here is the thread that related to that experiment; Silver Star has new Café menu and no diner This "test" lasted until earlier this year. I firmly believe other trains would have followed...

Amtrak has declared war on LD trains

Congress gave them the money to operate through this fiscal year, and they cut down the Silver Service trains already. There's nothing quite like attacking yourself, is there? No administration required. Hopefully, there will be consequences.

NER Business Class or Acela First Class--Best Bet for COVID Times?

I'd go with business class as I don't believe they are limiting coach capacity to 50% anymore.

    Amtrak Hubs

Here are your previously listed criteria for a hub: Based upon your definition, I'm struggling to see why you are considering PHL a hub and ALB a "focus." Especially since ALB is known to terminate/originate the Lake Shore Limited during disruption and fans out in four different directions...
