Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

I'm still interested in knowing what makes this problem unique to the flexible dining program? What makes this different from the Acela meal program and how is it different from the waste generated from items heated up in the cafe cars, prepared in the full-service dining cars, or from the...

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

I’ll take these both at once since it helps dive into what I was referring to. This thread refers to the safety and environmental impact of Amtrak’s Flexible Dining concept. If someone started a general thread about Amtrak’s food service waste or environmental impact, everything you mentioned...

    Meltdown on 94

It is supposed to be tested during the calendar day inspection. Your explanation is accurate enough.

    Amtrak Hubs

It would seem that PHL doesn't meet your established criteria for a hub. It doesn't have a LD train terminating or originating and barely has maintenance facilities.

Amtrak has declared war on LD trains

I'm wondering how they will justify cutting train now when they were given money specifically to run the trains now. It seems like credibility is going right out of the window.

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

Perhaps it has something to do with the costs and the congressional mandate. Amtrak's food and beverage choices over the last few years have a lot to do with PRIIA and the FAST act. One of the provisions is to eliminate F&B losses and by Dec 4th, 2020, federal funds are not be used to cover F&B...

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

I'm not suggesting anything...which is why I didn't start a thread stating" * If you will be 'Flex Dining' your food will be heated in the plastic dish. Turn it over and you will see the designation as '1' in the triangular recycling stamp required by law." I haven't seen everything heated up...

Safety and environmental issues with Amtrak's Flex Dining concept

When did they start heating up food in the serving dishes? Thais must be a very recent turn of events if this is the case. So recent that none of the OBS employees I asked stated they heated the food in these dishes. This is true, What makes you think that and when did this change? When it...

    Amtrak Hubs

The answer depends on your personal view of "hub." Personally, I would also throw in Richmond VA, Oakland CA, Portland OR, Albany NY, San Antonio TX, and New Orleans LA. If I'm being a bit more liberal, I could probably justify St Louis MO, Fort Worth TX, Springfield MA as well as New...

Could states ditch Amtrak for a private contractor?

Yes, states can ditch Amtrak and have in the past. They can also initiate their own service.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

This is at least the second time you've brought up laws regarding engines changeswithoug any sort of citation. As I previously mentioned, I'm guessing you're referring to blue flag rules. The reality of the situation is most of the time in WAS is a result of dwell time to allow one of the...

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion

The Acela first-class meals have been reduced to some sort of box "thing." The breakfast doesn't involve hot food and the lunch/dinner seems like some sort of cheese and meat tray. I doubt there will be anyone on board to notice.

2020 Refund/Cancellation Fee Changes for Sleeping Cars

It is a good question but I am curious. Why would you want an evoucher when you can receive a full refund? I thought the main attraction of a voucher was to reduce the potential loss due to cancellation fees. Why not just take the full refund?

    Amtrak Customer Advisory Committee

Why did they disband the committee? Did they decide they were doing well enough without one? That being said, ridership has been decimated and there is a new CEO. Now may be a good time to bring back the committee.
