The Star has served the Flexible dining menu for a few weeks now. ALL overnight trains with food service is utilizing flexible dining as discussed in the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion thread:
The Auto Train is the only exception.
It wouldn't. As discussed in...
There may be plenty of time in the field but there is still a difference in commuting into a central location on a daily basis versus commuting into a central location a few times a week. If that becomes an option (which it is for some and may be an option for more people in the future), it may...
I apologize for the poor phrasing. I know the trains are cancelled and I know why. What I am wondering is if this is the first time the Star (or any other LD train) has been cancelled in its entirety, multiple days in a row for track work. I don't recall this happening. Usually, they push back...
I would have normally started another thread for this tidbit of information but I think it is related.
Over the next few weeks, track work along the CSX route will hinder the operation of trains going past PTB. As usual, the Palmetto will not operate past WAS on MON-THU. The Carolinian would...
1 )I agree with you. With state and federal revenues down, not only will it be difficult or improved rail services, it may be difficult to support the existing service. This is particularly true with state-supported services.
2) I don't really agree with this point. This is the time they...
You can definitely see the drop in delays. There are fewer trains running, which means less traffic. Additionally, the trains that are operating aren't carrying as many passengers, so they aren't sitting in the stations for long periods of time.
Mr. Flynn has spoken to the press. There are a few articles floating around but they are pretty much the same.
What Amtrak service could look like once stay-at-home orders are lifted
During a conference call with reporters, Flynn said part of the discussion is determining what customer...
Here is the updated proposed rules regarding Amtrak OTP and service metrics.

Metrics and Minimum Standards for Intercity Passenger Rail Service
A few highlights.
It seemed like everyone that deals with Amtrak received a chance to chime in.
Consistent with Section 207(a), FRA and Amtrak...
Well, here is the latest attempt to establish metrics. The comment period for future part 273 (if it passes) ends 6/1/20.
Metrics and Minimum Standards for Intercity Passenger Rail Service
Highlights are included in the STB OTP Rule-Making thread, but please note, this proposed rulemaking is...
From everything I’ve read, those trains are cancelled thru 5/31.
Additionally, the Carolinian, the Keystones and the the Pennsylvanian are cancelled until through 5/17.
Keep an eye on the website since some station hours are changing dramatically.
I'd like to suggest a possible rule violation. 😈
If I'm reading this correctly, you'd have a train from Chicago to WAS. That is fine. Then, you'd have a section split at CVS and head to RVR. Sounds good. However, you mentioned a "through coach" that connected to the STAR.
Historically...
Regulatory observation, here.
For the record, you can attempt to call it what you wish. The bottom line is there has been a federal definition of a long-distance train that was reinforced when PRIIA was enacted. Therefore, I draw your attention to the Cliff Notes from section 201...
He's talking about congestion delays and congestion issues. However, we have priority on this mythical railroad.
Well, let's read your thoughts. The Auto Train was spun off as a condition, probably because it does come close to covering its cost. AS such, a private enterprise has taken it...
You have forgotten some of the ground rules:
As such, OTP isn't as much of an issue.
No, it shouldn't as I have corridor trains already taking care of that and I'm also trying to give places like GRO,CLT better departure times. They will have better times going to the south, will have...
Yes. Most of WTC have the clearance to handle the Superliners. The key is the lower level, which will allow the run-through service. Track 27 is the only, through track that can not handle the Superliners.
Sorry. The arrival time in PGH is around 1030 AM. Despite the qualifying terms of...
I'm playing fast and hard with the rules. 😈 Please note that @IndyLions did not say we were limited to train a day...meaning we could have multiple frequencies. Florida will benefit from this. He also didn't mention political pressure. :)
That being said, my first cut: The Coast Starlight...
I just lost 20% of my finished post. :(
FWIW, when you pick up the Auto Train pool, you've acquired 4 transition dorms (NON ADA/Not compliant), 16 sleeping cars ADA sleeping cars, 6 dining cars, 16 coaches, 6 lounge cars and remember....you pick up 6 deluxe sleepers!
You also pick up a pool...
