COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion

I don't believe there is a specific restriction that forbids furloughs. I do believe they must avoid involuntary furloughs and run the operation to the best of their abilities. To be sure, there is a "voluntary" furlough plan in place that is being used to help avoid "involuntary" furloughs...

You've been appointed President of Amtrak....with a catch

I do not wish to be a wet blanket on this fantasy thread so I wish to establish clear guidelines by asking for more information, please. 1) This question may not be in the spirit of the "10 train limit" since it can lead to anything (hint, hint ) but is there a mileage limit for how long the...

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion

If we waited to post for verified facts, this place would shut down...and that "other place" wouldn't even have a domain name. I'm not much for chasing people but I will say you would be doing the board a disservice by withdrawing.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion

I'd love to share your optimism but, As Devil's Advocate has pointed out, Amtrak has not been relieved of the Mica rule. Under the current guidelines, no federal funds may be used to cover F&B losses starting next FY. Did anyone see the F&B plan for the LD network that would meet these...

AMTRAK, MTA, NJ TRANSIT & PORT AUTHORITY LAUNCH #SOUNDTHEHORN CAMPAIGN

This involves multiple operating companies and can go in multiple forums. This can also go in the Corona Virus thread, I suppose. I'll place it here and guess where it will end up. In the meantime, this is Amtrak's release. Each company will put out their own release...

    New Piedmont Roundtrip

Almost two years later, they are still sitting in the woods. NCDOT bought part of a Ringling Bros. circus train and now isn’t sure what to do with it This has naturally drawn the attention of posturing politicians. If nothing else, I hope they have funding to rebuild these cars and use them...

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

You mean mostly from the cafe car. The remaining eastern trains (except the LSL) will remove their dining cars. It isn't a firm date and the reality of the situation is ridership will likely dictate when (and if) a two-car operation returns.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

I'm not sure wasted is the right word. After all, the look was brought in to help them compete with the airlines....which they did. A clunky looking car might not have brought in the ridership like the sleek, tubular design. Additionally, they were built when people didn't carry everything...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

The LSL is 7 cars ALB-CHI, 3 cars BOS-ALB and 4 cars NYP-ALB. The first time I saw the itty-witty-bitty LS, I thought it was an equipment move.

I think the last of the Downeaster service will run this weekend. Then, it will halt service until May. We’ll See.

Signs about Anderson and Amtrak north of PHL

How long will it take for these signs to come down? o_O

Richard Anderson replacing Wick Moorman as Amtrak CEO

Next Wednesday, Mr. Anderson steps down as CEO and works in an advisor role until the end of the year. I'm thinking he won't necessarily miss the job. At the end of the day, how will he be remembered? Members of the private car industry need not reply.

I believe all the convection ovens have been added. Maybe they pulled them to see if they could get you to increase your post count. So far, so good.

    New Amtrak Arbitration Agreement

I guess we missed this but as predicted: Amtrak's mandatory arbitration policy would end under new legislation

    Strange Incident at Flagstaff 4(3)

If everyone is so interested, why not contact the Flagstaff police and ask them? Perhaps this website may post an update soon: http://flagscanner.com/category/daily-incident-recap/

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Unless there is a last-minute reprieve, it'll be testing the NEC until Mid-May. If you're a night owl and dry conditions permit, it commences in NJ this week.

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

It is probably still on since there haven't been plans to add a diner to the Star for some time. From the Silver Star Diner thread: This still stands true. The cafe car will still continue in the consist so the only real change will be the food. It will resemble the Cardinal. FWIW, they...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

It is optional but recommended. However, this comes into play: You have to find them first! As I understand it, this has more to do with track work. All things being equal, it would likely be canceled from NYP to RGH MON-THU anyway.
