    Springfield, MA Amtrak

I saw on today's (6/10) schedule for Springfield (as well as the railcam) that 449 and 448 have been restored. I'm assuming the track work needed from NY to MA has been completed? Or, is the restoration just a weekend-only thing? (At least, I thought it was track work. If I am wrong, please...

I saw that tonight's 4(9) was longer than usual tonight observed from the Fullerton railcam. Three leaders up front and superliners for as long as the eye could see. I also saw that it had a special BNSF car at the end.

Along with #146 above, #141 left earlier this morning (6-5-23) at 4:45A as part of the new scheduling.

    Springfield, MA Amtrak

It looks like Springfield has a new Northeast Regional train added to the mix. #146 arrived at the station earlier tonight (6-4-23) at 11:31P EST, and #140 arrived earlier. You can see both of them below from the railcam (in the first picture, it is the P42 arriving into the station as the train...

    My Lionel O-Scale

I'm only a little into model railroading, but I wanted to display some of my O-scale Lionel set. This set (not all of it is pictured) has been a hand-me-down from generations in my family, and I recently purchased an amfleet car (these are hard to find at an affordable price) to put on it as...

    Cardinal discussion

Regarding the consist, the Cardinal usually comprises of two Amfleet coaches, one dining car, one sleeper, and a dorm car at the end (which I think the crew uses). I'll be on the Cardinal for the first time in July. I'll be headed to Chicago from Cincinnati. Also, just as an update, it looks...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

My apologies for the confusion on this. I stand corrected. I appreciate you providing the track diagram @jis. This makes a lot more sense. 👍

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

PGH serves both superliners (Capitol Limited) and amfleets (Pennsylvanian). From when I've taken trains out of PGH, the both Capitol Limited and the Pennsylvanian used that middle platform as I'm assuming some of the other tracks have been abolished from the main line. I do know that the...

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

A line straight up from the south would be pretty neat to see as well @Jdub ! It would be cool if it stopped in Nashville, TN, Lexington, KY, and then up to Cincinnati, OH. That would be a neat route from JAX!

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

From my understanding, a way from Columbus to Pittsburgh is to head north and split at Bellevue, OH (NS) or at Marion, OH (CSX) and ride on the Indy line.

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

Just curious, what is the high-speed route between Chicago and Indianapolis you are referring to? I know that there's the happenings of the SSL (this is not high-speed though) happening down to Dyer, so some of that way will be electrified.

I liked the fact that you used the station codes to reference these locations. :D

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

So, it looks like there has been another study submitted for a possible Columbus-to-Chicago route (along with the 3C+D studies that are already happening). It would be interesting to see two routes here in Columbus. I don't think that it would happen, but it would be great to see that here...

Welcome @bd5657a ! I as well am an advocate for expanded and improved passenger rail here in the USA. With you being from DC, what routes have you taken?

That's cool that you are taking the SWC the entire leg of its journey. You'll definitely see a lot of great scenery (from what I've heard, and that I can imagine as well). My recommendation is to frequent the observation car. With the Wolverine, you'll get to experience the new venture cars...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Those would be cool to see on the Pennsylvanian on the PRR line. I wouldn't think they would be on any of the Keystone routes as those use ACS-64's. Maybe they're en route up north though?

    Chicago Union Station discussion

Today, at the wye for the racetrack at Chicago's Union Station, I've noticed that the trains shunting have come out on other tracks, but head back into the north/south tracks on the track closest to the cam that is usually utilized by BNSF freight. Any ideas on this? (pictured below) (I can...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

301 (my favorite charger livery) has been a regular on the City of New Orleans 58/59 route lately. It's also great to see it leading as well. I know that before, it was recently a regular on the Empire Builder route as well.
