    Midwest Venture discussion 2023 Q3 -2024

I was in a venture car not too long ago and utilized the bathroom while on board. The bathroom is more spacious to help accommodate wheelchair access as well.

Amtrak or Transit related YouTube channels and videos

I do have to say that Thom from Trains Are Awesome did a very well done and content-rich compilation vid of all of the liveries throughout Amtrak's run. His channel is my favorite Amtrak and transit channel to watch and I just wanted to highlight his video here.

    New Phase VII P42: #174

I know that all of the horizons, amfleets, and superliners (outside of the CA region) share the phase 5 livery. They probably will eventually share the same paint scheme as the venture cars. It will take quite a while though. I'm sure anything that comes out of Beech Grove will probably have...

Capitol Limited cancelled in both directions, 2/13/24

It's great to see that 29/30 have been restored over the past few days (from what I've been seeing on railcams) and that the derailment did not cause any long-term pauses with the service.

Capitol Limited cancelled in both directions, 2/13/24

That is very true. When I go to PGH to take the 42, I notice that there are a lot of passengers that detrain on 30. According to Amtrak's website, it looks like tonight's 29 and 30 are cancelled as well. It will probably be a few days before the CL is restored.

    New member, long time railfan

Welcome to the forum! It almost looks like that first photo was at the Big 10 curve (which recently just got a railcam as well)? Also, be sure to post some pics in our Rail Videos and Rail Photography room as well!

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

10TV (one of the local stations here in Columbus where I am) did a very content-rich news story on how passenger rail could impact Columbus by investigating how it impacts the Bloomington-Normal area. With plans for passenger rail in Ohio, see how one midwest city capitalizes on it I loved...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

I was just in Pittsburgh this past weekend taking the Pennsylvanian and I noticed that they are building something at the end of the upstairs platform entrance. We'll have to see what comes of this. Also, expanding from PaTrainFan's post above with the PID downstairs, there is also a vertical...

Can Private Railroads operate passenger service without government help?

If it counts, Union Pacific has Metra passenger trains running on their tracks in Chicago that leave from Ogilvie.

    New Phase VII P42: #174

From various railfan pics I've seen today, as well as seen from the MH tower railcam on Railstream, I see that there is now a P42 now painted in Phase VII livery (shown below). To my knowledge, this is the only P42 within the Phase VII livery. I'm assuming this came from Beech Grove. It...

    G'day! I'm new here!

Welcome to the forum from a fellow user on here who grew up in Ballarat! It's so cool to hear that you're coming over to the USA and riding on Amtrak here. I used to take the V/Line sprinters a lot when I went into Melb from Ballarat. I left Australia in 2000, which was right before the...

    Riding Amtrak for fun?

You're lucky to have that access to rail transportation. I'm jealous hehe. I sometimes watch the Springfrield railcam and watch CT Rail and the Valley Flyers and Hartford Line from there. That's so great that CT has that network of rail transportation there. I miss having that like I did in...

    Riding Amtrak for fun?

Pretty much with me, I ride the train solely just to ride the train as well. For example, where I live, there isn't that many options for day trips other than going to Pittsburgh, going as far as Harrisburg and then going back in one day. I grew up in Australia, where there was a lot of public...

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

I haven't seen any word of that happening in phases. If the route does come to fruition, I'm sure it will all be in one segment. It's a good idea, though. We'll have to see what happens.

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

Reviving Ohio's rail connectivity: Cincinnati to Cleveland route could boost economy Cincinnati's channel 12 covered a story regarding the 3C+D. It's great to see this get some more media attention. Even though a long way away (and a very slim possibility of it actually happening), this was a...

    Hello from the west coast

The ghan is a very well-known train trip in Australia. It was one I wish I took when I lived in Aus, as well as the overlander. With having a majority of the Amtrak trips done, we look forward to your future contributions of knowledge to the forum :)

Amtrak Travel Survey - something new?

I'm liking that they are being more responsive to survey feedback. I submitted a survey a while back regarding kudos for some of the conductors on one of my recent trips, and I received a reply within a few days stating that it's being documented under the conductor's file and their supervisor...

Polar Express train at Chicago Union Station

The Polar Express is no more for 2023 as the dash 8 livery P42 160 is heading south (on #59).

Pacific Surfliner bypass of LA Union Station - "Rare Mileage" Part 2 -Maps

I remember from a post a while back that you went to Fullerton for some railfanning? Great place to do that. I always see a lot of railfans there on the live railcam from that location. Great to a lot of west coast Amtrak action there! That's a great shot of your train as well!

    Hiawatha discussion

I see that a dash 8 (519) is leading back on one of the Hiawatha routes again. There were some mechanical issues with the power yesterday (12/22) where the Empire Builder #8 assisted, and now the dash 8 is back on again. We'll see how long it stays on. It's always a treat to see it on there.
