    Amtrak Store changing vendors

Just as a reminder, the new Amtrak Store launched yesterday. From what I've been seeing, the majority of it is merch that was available on the previous store, but some cool new items as well.

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

In response to your question about the roomettes, I personally do not. I usually only just travel coach as mine are short trips and not long distance.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

I know the Pennsylvanian, Cardinal, Crescent, LSL, as well as Valley Flyers are still using P42s. Some Northeast Regional trains use them as well. These are just a few routes off of the top of my head that I can think of that still use P42s. I know the Cardinal and Crescent still have them...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

One of the differences is that the Cardinal has amfleet coaches, where the CL has superliner. With that being said, I know that you had mentioned a superliner II, which I would take over the amfleet II. The superliners do have more legroom and bigger windows (however, amfleet II windows are...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

From the various railcams that I watch, I haven't seen an SSL on 29/30 in a while. I wouldn't expect one on your March trip, but it would be a nice idea as that route does see some nice scenery.

    Midwest Venture discussion 2023 Q3 -2024

On Venture cars, does anyone know what this beep/bell is? While on my recent trip and my first time on a venture car, this notification bell occasionally went off. I had figured that this was a "call attendant" type of bell. At first, I thought it was someone's cell phone, but it did sound like...

Ann Arbor to Chicago - October 2023

This past weekend, I was meeting up with a friend in Chicago to do some railfanning and when I was planning the trip, the times from the Toledo, OH station near me didn't mesh well with our schedules. The Cardinal frequency south of me (Cincinnati) did not mesh well with our schedules either, so...

City of New Orleans (train) discussion

I see that tonight(10/26)'s CONO was scheduled to leave at 9:05P CST instead of 8:05P CST. Is this a temporary change? I know previously it had a temporary schedule change due to trackwork along the IC line.

    Cardinal discussion

The image below was from Amtrak on Instagram and was describing the Cardinal (as you can see this is the fourth image over, the "Welcome to the Cardinal" was the first image). The image talks about a dining car on the Cardinal. I took the Cardinal earlier this year from Cincinnati to Chicago...

Amtrak Cardinal: Roomette New York Penn to Lafayette IN (Video Included)

I'm sorry to hear this was a poor experience :( I know you had looked forward to it since you were a kid and your expectations were not met. I totally agree about your statement regarding Indianapolis station, but I know that it only sees one train per direction per day. When I was there at...

    Hiawatha Service trip report

So glad to hear that you were able to enjoy (for the most part) the Hiawatha route. That route is a fun route to take a train on and I'm glad that you had a good experience on the venture cars. I'm sorry to hear about the rattling though. On one of my most recent train trips, the unoccupied...

    Amtrak Store changing vendors

I had received an e-mail today from Staples (Amtrak's website current online store provider) stating that Amtrak will be changing vendors soon (shown below). This is great news as I have not seen any updated or newly stocked merchandise on the Amtrak Store website from Amtrak proper in quite...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

It looks like #30 out of Chicago tonight had two baggage cars at the rear. I'm assuming these are deadheading to DC? There was also a baggage car tonight behind the power (which was a P42 tonight instead of a charger).

    Hi from North Carolina!

I sometimes watch the railcam there at Selma. That's cool that you've taken those routes!

    Hi from North Carolina!

Welcome to the forum @OmahaRoad! Happy to have you here as well! Yes, NC does have quite an Amtrak presence. What side of NC are you on? I know that the east side sees various routes, such as: Carolinian, Silver Star and Meteor, and Palmetto.

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

Yep. I noticed that there are those lighted signs in the waiting area as well. I also noticed that on the platforms, there is new signage stating Location E/F designating the different platforms.

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

This past Sunday (9/24), while watching #30 come through and then taking #42, I saw that the Pittsburgh station waiting room is under renovations. It looks like just new paint so far and new signage around the entrance and stairs/escalator. (From what I remember, there used to be posters...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

This past Saturday, I drove to Pittsburgh and got to finally see my favorite charger #301 (Day 1 livery) in person and leading as well. As a railfan, this was definitely a highlight of my hobby. This was on #30 headed towards DC. I've always seen it on railcams on different routes, but...

    Hiawatha discussion

It looks like the Hiawatha set that has the venture cars has a different replacement cabbage car (shown below from the railcam).

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Two other routes that the chargers are not on are the Pennsylvanian and the Cardinal. Hoping they make their introduction on these services in the near future. I'm assuming they're not on these routes yet due to the amount of chargers available to juggle on these routes?
