    Compensation for Amtrak Cancellation

Let me make sure I'm parsing this correctly. You think one would be entitled to all of the money back AND a free trip on Amtrak's dime? That expectation is a bit... excessive....

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

If he "doesn't need a room" for a midnight to 9am connection, maybe the same holds true for him in NOL? No way I'm not getting a room willingly signing up for those connections.

L' Enfant Plaza - flag stop?

I don't think that the existence of current flag stops in any way disproves the assertion that new flag stops aren't forthcoming.

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

I've had a similar problem, but at the other end of the flight. I had a brief conversation with the flight attendant after the signs had gone back on and she was making her final check. Her advice boiled down to "I can't tell you you're allowed to, but if you've got to go, you've got to go and...

    Aircraft tracking app for Android?

If you want to see "the good stuff", adsbexchange.com provides an unfiltered tracking feed. I'm watching a Chinook pretend like he's a DC commuter at 1,000':

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

Amtrak's latest tweet is equal parts relevant and amusing here:

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

Your interpretation is correct. Although I do like that new slogan. :D

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

If the best argument one can muster boils down to "planes suck sometimes too" (while using anecdotes of dubious accuracy), then we're having the wrong conversation.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

Presumably, they're planning their vacation the way that I do - to be home on a certain day (say Sunday, to be at work on Monday). If I'm flying home, I'm paying for meals Sat/Sun and paying for my hotel room Saturday night. If I'm taking the train, I'm leaving Saturday to be home on Sunday...

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

If I said "never again" (and actually followed through with it) every time I had a moderately-bad experience, I'd never be able to leave my house. As the saying goes, "Compost Occurs", and it occurs everywhere.

    Southern Maryland Light Rail

Basically no, and Morgantown's shutting down this year. Pope's Creek will be long dead before light rail ever comes to fruition.

    Virginia Service expansion

We have an answer! Not before July, but during July. This will be a great addition to the service with a very reasonable late-afternoon departure from Roanoke, great for Friday evening getting home from school. The return trip leaves DC around 8 and gets you back to Roanoke in the early...

    Leaving plane at intermediate stop?

This. It's just like speeding. Anyone driving slower than me needs to get out of the way, and anyone driving faster than me is an uncaring lunatic.

    Superliner Bedroom C?

I think that they spread the load between cars, rather than fill one car and leave the other empty.

    Leaving plane at intermediate stop?

If it enables you do what you'd like, and the potential fallout is worth it, by all means go for it. My opinion of you will remain unchanged. :D

    Leaving plane at intermediate stop?

The answer seems to be "the airlines". If you're willing to pay the potential consequences, good for you. Some people take agreements that they enter into a little more seriously.

    Amtrak cars with ads

    This is nothing new.

About pairs of numbers for east- and west-bound trains

Did they truly consider all of them to be "westbound", or did the follow a "rule" similar to the SP's "everything running towards San Francisco is odd-numbered, everything running away is even-numbered"? (which is part of the reason that the Coast Starlight has the non-contiguous 11/14...

    Redemption Email

Funny (unrelated) story. The computer system at work started adding [Non-DoD Source] to the beginning of the subject line of all emails that originate... outside the DoD... Dumb, but mostly harmless. However, that sort of thing is proliferated to all sorts of garbage being added to subject...
