    Amtrak dining and cafe service

The Crescent is the one big named train I’ve never done. Unfortunately they don’t have the full diner experience I think…which is criminal for a train that goes to New Orleans. Someday all the trains will have a diner and an observation car, you will be able to go all the way from downtown San...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Yes I love the map and seeing where we are. I’ll join you for dinner anytime! It will indeed be interesting to see how it all works out. I like talking to my dining companions, looking out at the scenery, but when alone it’s also nice to check the news or even just check the map and see where...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Well you are right about phones, I’ve met those people before. As a reticent person, it amazes me how “unedited“ some folks can be.…but it’s an iPad I’m talking about….generally I’m looking at it and not talking to it. At any rate…I should just be looking out the window Anyway. Life is short...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I think…like the grits thing…it’s a personal rule, as I’ve never heard of either in all my travels except for that particular dining car attendant. I don’t think I did anything to make him mad. I even left a tip! Could be they were just running short of grits… now That I’m talking about...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I’m a little like that, but on my last few trips they seat you singular. I’ve actually said I didn’t mind sitting with other folks only to have no takers….although that could just be me😳

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Just completed a run on the Zephyr from Denver to Emeryville. We had a good time…the scenery on that train is glorious. I love my Amtrak grits though…that and some eggs are a classic railroad meal for me. Well… on this train at least…..you can’t get the grits unless you have a continental...

    Train pairs meeting up

Are The schedules set so that all the trains meet up at approximately the same time? For instance the below map shows a lot of the coming/going trains meeting up around 1.00 pacifIc time. I know the scale is big so they are actually some distance from each other, but a few are an hour late and...

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Well autospell…wish they had biscuits and gravy but I do need to tell yah grits on a train are the next best thing. Good on you Amtrak for keeping that particular tradition alive!

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

No they want the roomette experience. I mean we can also do biscuits class here which is quite nice on the Starlight and some might take it.

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Ok it’s on! We’ve all fundamentally agreed. So now I’m going to try to book 5 roomettes across the Eagle and the Sunset, and then 5 on the Starlight….all on the same day. is there capacity? We are not tied to a specific day so I can play around in June, July To find something. I suppose I...

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

The paper is ok, but I don’t know that I’d be comfortable with rocks and scissors around this group

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Well you don’t know my relatives…I’m thinking the partitions should stay up…maybe even be reinforced!

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Oh there is going to be some complaining, especially as we start divvying up top and bottom bunks, but we all grew up taking family camping trips, so kind of had that argument before!

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Yes I’ve made way worse contingency plans in my life…or usually none at all! I think that turned out well maybe once in the last 50 years…

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Good advice! There are no major events in June like car week or the pro am, but it is the height of tourist season and I’d imagine a big one this year! ill look into that once I see whose crazy enough to do the trip. Thanks for that reminde!

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Yes Mr Seaboard92, I have read your trip reports! Is a Private car within the means of a commoner? or I guess 8 or 9 commoners?

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Yes these are excellent options and I’ve had the pleasure of doing them all and loved each one. I‘ll certainly make those recommendations. Maybe some of my relatives will fall in love with the train like I did and want to keep on rolling along!
