    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

We actually looked at that. I’ve heard Amtrak can take down the partitions between the bedrooms or that you can book a private car they tack onto the Amtrak train but I would think I couldn’t afford such a thing. What I saw was 5 to 10k a day? of course with enough people such things can...

    Booking Amtrak tickets from abroad

How valid is the “Only one room left” etc. message. I’ve seen it and then booked two rooms anyway so I think it’s marketing…but is it?

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Yes I think I can say they are all train enthusiasts since they haven’t ridden it yet😀. That might change after the experience! As I understand it, Flex dining is only on the Texas Eagle…once we combine in San Antonio it’s Sunset Limited full service? Someone please correct me if I am...

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

I live in Monterey, Ca…so the Coast Starlight is my “home“ train, but grew up in East Texas. My parents are near Longview, Tx, my Sister and BIL in New Orleans, my brother and SIL in Dallas, and my Aunt and uncle in Houston. So we are trying to collect the gang and assorted kids to take a...

A Seattle Debacle but Coast Starlight Saves the Day

Well having flown Emirates a few times that is indeed one plane I’d take over a train! But if you thought bedrooms were high bucket 😮

    Train Legs vs. Sea Legs.

Hah me too…especially when you have something in your hands from the cafe car. The tracks seem to know this and act up accordingly

    The big map

Yes that is the fun of it. For instance…what would it be like to be on train #692 on your way to Churchill at this time of year. I had to google it! I can only imagine, but some people are on there right now and I’d love to hear what they are seeing and doing…

    Planning southwest trip

Oh a sopappilla with some butter and honey is a glorious thing. I’m not a foodie, but it seems like a more savory beignet like you get in New Orleans, either one …are both delicious. I need one now!

    The big map

Now I’ve become obsessed with this thing. Is there any historical reason for the numberings of the trains? I see all the western trains seem to meeting up at 2.00 am pacific…I assume that is by design. Why that time? it’s fascinating to me at least!

    The big map

Well that is a sad story. I will admit am one of those who would have said “bonus…more train time” because I don’t ride the train expecting to get anywhere on time, just approximately…hence my post above. But there are clearly those that do. This is a case in point.

    The big map

Just a wonderment…what does happen when your stuck on a train….I mean a long distance train that isn’t just late, but 8 or more hours late…I’ve never had the experience thankfully but it’s happening according to the big map… 1. Does OBS communicate it? I’ve always thought this was hit or miss...

    The big map

Thanks for this…I didn’t know it was there. I love the old route maps and the juckins.net schedules and printing them out in full colors, then taking a pencil or pen and crossing out the stops In between…as well as planning Sunrise and Sunset and where we are gonna be for breakfast lunch and...

Well Dairy Queen put me through college working there at my local franchise in the summers and I could use some steak fingers and white gravy right now!
