    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I have to agree with you, because this was actually my job for a while at my airline, circa early 90's. I was responsible for ordering meals for our station, for the flights that served them. Previous employee to do this had a tough time, lots of waste, and the station manager moved me to the...

    Suggestion sent to Amtrak

Yeah, that's a non-response, it addressed nothing of the original communication by tincan72. But you know.....I think this is another aspect of society nowadays. One thinks they're making themselves perfectly clear, but then you get a response like that. I think communicating with large...

Narrow escape from car hit by train

The thing I wonder is, do they not look down the tracks and see the approaching headlight?? Why sit there mindlessly on a track with an approaching train....and there must have been horns audible in the distance. Unless, of course, they're blasting music into ear buds.

New Gulf Coast service (New Orleans - Mobile and Baton Rouge)

Anybody; anybody who tries to beat a train by going around gates that are flashing red lights - gates are DOWN, but they attempt to go around them - deserve what they get. Morons. I don't get it; how many times does it have to be said, how many times featured on news stories complete with...

    Brightline grade crossing incidents

I know there's been a lot of these posted and moron truck drivers are in abundance. But this is somewhat more dramatic and even spectacular, as a car carrier decided to maroon itself on a grade crossing in Hollywood in front of an oncoming Brightline, not doing 100mph but certainly moving...

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

LOL. No argument there. But in Amtrak's defense, in this case they've got Miami-Dade county politics to deal with (horrible). Also, I remember when they did a test fit of a train, and it stuck out across 25th street. And there's no wye, so they'd have to do a backup maneuver back to the...

NS derailment 3/4/23; other NS issues

The big corporations these days have this 'robber baron' mentality that completely dismisses employee concerns and well-being, and throws safety issues to the winds in the pursuit of exorbitant profits. And they're helped by the current political climate that says ''do anything you want until...

NS derailment 3/4/23; other NS issues

Four derailments by NS in just a couple months; what the heck is wrong with them?? Are they neglecting maintenance on rolling stock, or track? Or like UP, discouraging reporting and ignoring defects? DOT needs to come down hard on them, set an example so UP , BNSF, and CSX get their acts...

UP discouraged employees from reporting freight car defects (per news article)

Hopefully this gets something done, NS's CEO is supposed to testify soon on Capitol Hill. And the residents of East Palestine are still raising hell, I don't think this is going away anytime soon. NS has pretty much destroyed an entire town. 75k fine a day isn't much but they're going to...

Amtrak trains vs pedestrians or motor vehicles; accidents/fatalities

Well, this is a new one. Amtrak Surfliner hits a wood chipper. No one really hurt except for the wood chipper. Can't these people keep their stupid selves from crossing in front of oncoming trains?? It's frequently either trucks or construction equipment...

UP discouraged employees from reporting freight car defects (per news article)

That's a pretty damning article, in light of what happened to that train in East Palestine. All the freight roads want is more profit, at the expense of workers and the hell with safety. As a result, I hope they take a bazooka up the booty from the DOT with stricter rules and enforcement...

New Gulf Coast service (New Orleans - Mobile and Baton Rouge)

OK. Forgive this possibly stupid question but........what is this test train for?? What is being 'tested?' It can't be station fit with only one car. They did one of those in Miami with the full Silver Meteor consist and found it stuck out over the road. But that's not the case here...

    Brightline grade crossing incidents

This one somehow got himself stuck under a CSX train and lived.....wow https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/man-hospitalized-after-becoming-trapped-underneath-a-train-in-doral/

    Brightline grade crossing incidents

It's the south Florida effect. Lots of reckless, impatient people. Just try driving down there, you'll be.......scared. It actually seems worse now than before when I lived there. I just spent a week there visiting friends - I enjoyed my stay and seeing them but I was very glad to leave...

Most interesting encounter(s) on a train

Ah, damn! Being the football crazed person that I am, I would have absolutely been thrilled to have had that experience with the great John Madden; great story Bob Dylan!!

    Brightline grade crossing incidents

If you read the other story that @railliner posted above, to me the optics are even worse for these morons in the SUV. Apparently there was a northbound freight train already in transit thru the crossing, with the gates down. Seems the SUV decided to go around the gates and, incredibly, sit...

    Brightline grade crossing incidents

Funny, it doesn't block me , but anyway......basically an SUV parked itself on the tracks with Brightline bearing down and crossing gates down. The SUV got hit at high speed, enough that it rolled and damaged a nearby traffic light. CLIFF NOTES Witnesses told police the SUV was on tracks...

Most interesting encounter(s) on a train

I've met some real characters traveling on the train. Not saying negatively, just really weird in a fun way, or have fascinating tales to tell of themselves. On the LD trains there's more time and more opportunities, plus the lack of the expectation of getting somewhere in a hurry which, I...
