Cannabis testing and its effects on Amtrak hiring

Hmmm. When I was very young (late teens, early 20's) I smoked weed a fair amount. I don't recall experiencing anything like the anxiety some do, quite the opposite. No giggles, either. I had a custom van at the time, and did a lot of driving around and camping; never had trouble...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Oh? I took it to mean that they got some of the OTS cars and made them roadworthy - ? The article says, ''shop forces assembled....'' and lists the cars.

^^^^^^^ good job by Beech grove; shows they can get after it when they need to.

    Motivation for traveling by train?

I agree totally; we take the train to enjoy the journey itself, and meet new people.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

People ignore those, when they feel like it, or even feel gates and lights are 'inconvenient' for them. I know one guy who brags often about how many times he's gone around crossing gates in Ft Lauderdale with either Brightline approaching or one of the Silvers. Thinks it's a game. I told...

Literally, you can't tell my sarcasm by the 'rolled eyes' emogi. C'mon. No, it doesn't

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Once again.........something tries to beat or evade an approaching train, with disastrous consequences. But, I'm sure this is the train's fault....

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

Probably a decent amount, these are union shop jobs. I know especially the plumbers and electricians make a lot. That's not completely true. Maybe some are mediocre, yes; but many businesses are now advertising wages AND benefits, where they wouldn't provide benefits like medical before but...

Points Guy article - Amtrak attracting new customers

I read that article too; I like the points guy as well. The potential is certainly there. I just wish Amtrak would come out with some announcement about an upcoming makeover, upgrading computer systems, fixing ongoing abysmal service failures and onboard service, standardizing policies so...

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

What Amtrak needs is to modernize their res and booking systems, with some GOOD automated functions. Then a lot of this crap will go away - if they do. That, and staff-up. But staffing seems to be the bane of all businesses right now, not just transportation. The airlines are taking it...

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

God-dammme. I love trains but Amtrak is getting more and more mickey-mouse. Who is doing their IT? High school seniors? Is upper management now composed of college interns conducting wild experiments? What a shame all of this is.

Amtrak trains vs pedestrians or motor vehicles; accidents/fatalities

Holy god........sheesh, what a way to go. Sad. Yes, it's like, 'blame the train' in full caps and bold headline. Brightline, TriRail, Amtrak all get headlines for this stuff in south Florida, seemingly faulting the train; never mind it's usually the victims' fault.

Amtrak trains vs pedestrians or motor vehicles; accidents/fatalities

I really can't comprehend how this happens, unless it's deliberately ''suicide by train....'' (shudder) I understand the morons that go around crossing gates thinking they can beat the oncoming train, they're impatient idiots that deserve what happens. But - pedestrians? First of all...

    Upbeat article on Zephyr

A Conde Nast writer has just posted a really nice review of dining and the California Zephyr experience. Nice to see a positive, upbeat article for once. https://www.cntraveler.com/story/on-its-sleeper-routes-amtrak-is-making-its-dining-car-part-of-the-experience

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

We've been on the Zephyr, and the Empire Builder a few times, as I'm fond of Seattle. I enjoy meeting new people at table, only once was it somewhat of a drag because of a young lady who wouldn't even look at us, she was so buried in her cellphone. It really was a turnoff when she proceeded...

    Silver Star Disruption (92/13)

Heh. It wouldn't surprise me, these days; but I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek, sorry you couldn't recognize that. I didn't seriously mean to cut off their heads either:rolleyes:.

    Silver Star Disruption (92/13)

So........is Amtrak security going to try and find the mindless neanderthals who did this to begin with?? I mean......there are cameras everywhere these days. Off with their heads, I say!!!

Sunset Limited/Texas Eage bridge fires causing service disruptions

Yea, I'm with you, when I saw that photo I thought, 'oh hell no, it's a total loss.' Maybe as another poster suggested it's a photo of something else. I wouldn't want to be the first to cross it - but I doubt Amtrak would be 'trying their luck.' Someone has to have carefully checked...
