Names of 1966-68 trains to Wyoming from Main Line?

I've done some research but can't nail it down - does anyone here know the names of the two sleepers I would have taken to get from Main Line Philly to Rock Springs Wyoming in the mid-late Sixties? The first train went through PA to Chicago (possibly Broadway Limited), and the second Chicago to...

Amazing how many rail professionals are on this forum

Is there a special name for people who chase trains to photograph them from the outside? Chasers? Recently we took the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern steam train from Reading to Jim Thorpe, absolutely great in the Super Dome. Our favorite thing was watching all the chasers and "local foamers"...

It's hilarious, charming, and self-effacing (so to speak)

I did have to look up the name "Foamer"

OMG no wonder. Gee, I thought you all knew what you were talking about. 😂

Amazing how many rail professionals are on this forum

(Delete or move this if it's in the wrong topic area, can't figure out where to put it.) So, I joined recently and a robot put "Train Attendant" on my profile. I went in and changed it, since I just ride 'em. But I'm amazed, it seems like 90% of the people posting here have railroad jobs listed...

Nostalgic and Historic Amtrak Stations Still Used Today

Kingston RI, built 1875 and in use ever since. Beautifully restored inside and out.

    Best North Eastern Routes

As a Philadelphia native, I just wanna say, either there's a yellow filter on your photo or those are Pittsburgh "cheesesteaks" and they are wrong. ;)

California Zephyr - Chicago to San Francisco in the Winter

Just amazing work, thank you! We rode the Zephyr eastbound in June 2017. This was a whole different look, though you missed getting mooned by kayakers in the canyon. How do you keep the camera steady? If hand holding, I am very impressed. Impressed regardless.

    Finding a seat on 162

All true! Maybe it is only the Cafe car where it takes awhile for the NYP rush, because the Cafe is closed during that period and who just wants to sit there? (Me.) I should tell you my PHL-KIN story of March 13, 2020. Picture that, March 13, pretty much the day people freaked out and poured out...

    Things to take with you

Yes, just don't touch the window or the vibrations will be a problem. I've seen people trying to steady their camera on some train part, but your body is the best damper, let arms/hands absorb the movement, and use a fast shutter speed. I use Manual focusing so the photograph doesn't end up as...

    Finding a seat on 162

I always boarded (in PHL) at the Cafe car on the NEC, and sat in the Cafe car the whole way, supporting Amtrak by eating meals and snacks and drinking coffee. Best view, workspace, and potential conversation. But that was before Covid. Now they may not allow it or it may be maxed. Remember if...

Cardinal sleeper car orientation and lounge car access

They didn't leave a message. But, I'm curious because I'm not very savvy with my iPhone - how do you hear a message being left on a cellphone? I don't hear it. The best thing would be if the screen said "Amtrak" when the robot calls. (It will for me now, of course, since I added it.) In my case...

What does your Forum User Name mean?

It came to me right away when I joined the forum because I'm a little balmy ("extremely foolish; eccentric") and loved the Zephyr ride, but mainly because it's a line from a madrigal we used to sing in high school, something about balmy zephyrs. Might have been the song "April is in my...

    Things to take with you

If you want to take photographs out the window (who doesn't?) wear or bring a black/dark top or jacket. Lighter colors reflect. Makes a huge difference.

Who in the world are you?

Agreed! The NE Regional has often had Sabra (I think that is the brand name) hummus and pretzels, which I loved. I hope they still offer it when we ride it next month. They also had a good mozzarella ball "salad" which fits a low-carb snackstyle.

Cardinal sleeper car orientation and lounge car access

Just want to correct the record about the time it took Amtrak's robot to call me back and give me an agent. Actually it was reasonably soon after I called them, not 14 hours as I previously stated! I didn't recognize "Chester Heights PA" as Amtrak. I get lots of spam calls from PA so I ignored...

Cardinal sleeper car orientation and lounge car access

Thanks! That's what I finally figured out, assuming the car is on the rear both ways. I found this diagram that shows where the door is.

Cardinal sleeper car orientation and lounge car access

Thanks for the heads up on that. I've found the agents on the phone to be very helpful, though it's taking 14 hours so far to get my callback!

Cardinal sleeper car orientation and lounge car access

We're ready for that. We've been on most of the Western trains but also the Lake Shore Limited and (frequently) the NEC so we get the difference between Superliner and Viewliner. If the cafe car in the Cardinal is the kind they have on the NE Regional, we'll be happy but only if they let us sit...
