Can we use squeegees on the outside of windows?

We're taking the Cardinal this week for the first time, solely for the epic view (and train feeling of course). I've read here that the Cardinal windows can be very dirty, and have seen that problem on many trains, understandably. On the Empire Builder we saw a guy who did not appear to be an...

    Ridership Survey

Very well done survey. Agree there should be options for multiple choices in all categories. It is missing the Midwest-West LD route I took the most often: City of Portland. Should Red Arrow/SEPTA High-Speed Line (Phila area) be on there? Thank you!

    Menu Choice email?

Nor the Cardinal this coming week. We are bringing instant camp food and a mini-kettle just in case.

Amtrak BidUp (Bidding for Upgrades - Business Class, First Class, and Sleepers)

Interesting, would that be a big point in favor of originally booking multiple legs separately? I thought I'd made a mistake booking next week's NER to DC by itself, then the Cardinal by itself, since I later read (on this forum) that you have less recourse if there are delays and cancellations...

Amtrak BidUp (Bidding for Upgrades - Business Class, First Class, and Sleepers)

Same here, just bid to upgrade from roomette to bedroom on the Cardinal next week. Amtrak sent me an email and I'm like, hell yeah. Mainly for the view out both sides and ability for two tall people to move around.

Old Newbie seeking advice for HO Pennsylvania

Thank you! Maybe the horn isn't important enough to go up in price and sophistication to DCC. Followup question (for anyone), are there problems if you assemble a consist from different manufacturers, or different eras within one manufacturer?

Old Newbie seeking advice for HO Pennsylvania

Ah, train show, that makes sense. I collect marbles and the marble shows are the best sources too. Few and far between, but I'm guessing train shows are more numerous.

Old Newbie seeking advice for HO Pennsylvania

Happy Thanksgiving! I might go train shopping this weekend, but don't want to make a stupid purchase. As a kid I had an all-metal O scale freight train that I loved, but it died in a house fire. Now 50 years later I’d like to get a simple setup and run it, but need to go smaller, so HO is my...

Names of 1966-68 trains to Wyoming from Main Line?

I googled City of Everywhere and someone on another forum says it didn't start till 1969, but that CoP and CoD would have been combined by 1965. He didn't say what its name was though. https://cs.trains.com/ctr/f/3/t/228465.aspx

The sinaglong in the coach car may have been only on the western leg.

Vague memory of train sitting in Pittsburgh, but 99% sure we did not change trains there.

Haha our posts arrived simultaneously. City of Everywhere, was it called that??? Love it. Thank you.

Names of 1966-68 trains to Wyoming from Main Line?

OK I searched for the photograph on the train platform in Paoli and was unsuccessful. But I did find snapshots dated 1965 from camp the first summer. So, the period we're researching is Summer 1965 to Summer 1967. I'll go with Broadway Limited and City of Portland, sounds reasonable! Thank you...

Amazing how many rail professionals are on this forum

I've been looking at model trains in the 2021 Lionel catalog, and they have some nice graffiti'ed train sets! Also burning houses. Not sure these things encourage good citizenship.

Names of 1966-68 trains to Wyoming from Main Line?

Thank you! A wealth of information. Streamliner, ooh. Those Broadway Limited times sound appropriate for Chicago. We went to the science museum there, but didn't stay overnight. Fall '68 would have been too late. I did this rail round trip for three summers, 1966-68 I believe. No later than...

That's right, we did board at Paoli. This was a train with some cars reserved for us campers. Pretty sure the New York campers were already on there.

YES this is my goal the next time I take that steam train in PA. One problem with the Super Dome on the Reading Blue Mountain (fall foliage excursion) is the glass doesn't go down very low. I had to sit up straight and crane my neck over to the window to see all the train chasers/spotters down...

Amazing how many rail professionals are on this forum

Oh definitely. I am seeking a subset designation. So, everybody is a railfan. Some of those (not all) are trainspotters. Some (not all) trainspotters are chasers? Some railfans are chasers but not spotters? Or are all chasers considered spotters?

Amazing how many rail professionals are on this forum

Seems like railfan applies to fans in and out of trains, no? And trainspotters park themselves in one spot/station and count....? I'm interested in the ones who are literally chasing (and getting ahead of) a train in a car so as to photograph it multiple times. That's what we saw in PA last...

New Train Service - The Palm Luxury Train

Grand imaginings. Can it refuel in Richmond so we (I mean, they) can use the 2 hours to explore Richmond? No disrespect to Florence, haven't been there, but Richmond may be more attractive to history buffs.
