Interesting. I'm ignorant about this because I ride Amtrak alone (as a senior), but does it make a difference as to how your two tickets price out in total as to which one of you is the senior?

I can only recount my own experience the one time I had to deal with Amtrak about a refund, but I hope this helps. If the refund is for a ticket that was processed manually sometime during its life cycle, It will take at least three weeks. This was explained to me by an Amtrak Guest Rewards...

I've noticed the same behavior on the French and Italian high speed trains. I guess the passengers get used to the short stops and act accordingly. High speed trains beget high speed passengers?

Agree. I don't think it's unreasonable to save seats/tables for customers who patronize the café car, especially when eating space is limited.

Future travel? One suggestion to consider, on routes you've never been. Take The Ocean, Montreal to Halifax, NS; the ferry from Yarmouth, NS to Bar Harbor, ME: and then a variety of Amtrak to Albany or NYC for the return home on the Lakeshore Limited. Just a thought! :)

Just a little trivia. The monorail was built to showcase part of the 1962 Seattle World Fair (Century 21) and the Vancouver Sky Train was built to showcase the 1986 Vancouver World Fair (Expo 86). You rode both on the same trip, as well as both Canadian and USA cross-country trains. Nice...
