Adirondack June '23 cancellation, and September restoration, state of Upstate NY service

Well if the Adirondack ever comes back for real, this is a good article for first-time riders. I did get a chuckle out of imagining Lake Champlain zipping by the window—when I took the Adirondack, the lake looked pretty still to me. Even the train was moving faster than the lake!😁

    Quick Keystone commutation

Yes, sounds like a Monday federal holiday travel pattern—most people enjoying their Monday morning wherever they had gone for the long weekend, then coming home that afternoon because they’d have to be at work the next day.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I looked up the appetizers and didn’t see any I liked so will be very happy to have traditional dining back on both the Silvers even without appetizers. As long as they keep that lemon cake I’m hearing rave reviews of, I’ll be content!😊

    Employee praise

Wonderful to know Leo is still around. He was one of the first SCAs I had when I started traveling on the Silvers back in 2009. Terrific SCA and a favorite of many here, including me.

Hotels near Rail Transit and Commuter Rail

Hi Ed—great to hear from you again as others have said😊! Hope everything is going well for you and that you have been having lots of good travel adventures. Taking short taxi rides is fine here and not unusual. If you’re going to a hotel or train station in a major city like Chicago, the driver...

    Northeast Regional discussion 2022-2024 H1

Oh, good point. Yes, I was in the BC car, so that’s the answer.

    Northeast Regional discussion 2022-2024 H1

I’ve only had this happen once—at Trenton—but I think it was malfunctioning doors in our car that had worked fine til then, so not the conductor’s fault. We had time to dash down to the next car and get off there. I did notice in New Haven recently (where I believe all doors should open?) that...

Petition against re-nomination of Coscia to board

I’m sorry to hear you’re taking a break from posting, but I do understand. I’ve done the same thing a few times (usually in July and August, when the New Jersey heat and humidity make me annoyed about everything😁). I appreciate your apology and commend you for the grace and civility you showed...

I-95 collapse effect on SEPTA and Amtrak

Oops—I somehow missed that it’s a temporary solution and not a permanent one. Not quite as miraculous as I thought! Thanks for pointing it out.

I-95 collapse effect on SEPTA and Amtrak

To say nothing of all of us in New Jersey saying “Get it fixed fast so you can go back on your side of the river—our roads are crowded enough!”😁 Just kidding—we are glad to help and share our roads whenever needed.😊 Seriously, I’m amazed at and impressed with the speed with which this is...

May 2023 Train travels: From NC to Michigan

Wonderful report—thank you! The Cap on time, a low-bucket bedroom, and a “spiffy” DC Metro? What secret do you know that has escaped the rest of us?😁 Seriously, I’m so glad you had such a great trip with your daughter and son.😊

Thanks for the information — I had forgotten all about the CCC cars.

Piedmont and North Carolina DOT Service discussion

Sounds wonderful! Hope you have a great time — I’m sure the passengers will enjoy it. Thank you for doing such a nice project and let us know how it goes.

    Capitol Limited discussion

Thr Capitol Limited is a relatively short trip for an LD train and travels between two major cities with many decent restaurants. If there truly is a shortage of staff or of dining cars, why not take the dining car (even when traditional dining comes back) off the Capitol Limited (reduce...

Plus you’re starting and ending in large cities, so going west you could get something in Washington to eat on the train and in Chicago just go straight to one of their wonderful breakfast places. Coming back, eat dinner before you board. The only meal you might need to have on the train is...

First train ride completed and some lessons learned

Very nice report—thank you! I’m glad the trip out was excellent. And on the way back you learned valuable lessons for the next time! Your photos are lovely. What is that gorgeous body of water (the one with the man in the boat)? And where is the little pond? If finances allow, next time you...

    Keystone Corridor discussion

I’m thrilled they are doing this. I went through Ardmore on the Keystone many years ago and remember thinking it looked nice and I would love to do a day trip there out of Philly. But (at least from the train window) it did look like there might be a steep hill to get down there. Ardmore calls...

I can’t give you any travel advice, but I wish you well at the conference. I’m sure your presentation will go well. In fact, the one piece of advice I can offer is that you give yourself some extra time there after it so that you can chat with all the people coming up to congratulate you and...

10 dead, 25 injured after bus carrying wedding guests crashes in Australia

How incredibly sad—especially more so since it was avoidable.
