Train Daddy (Andy Byford) is coming to Amtrak!

Nope. I don’t like it, either. I’ll just call him Andy.😊

Train Daddy (Andy Byford) is coming to Amtrak!

I agree completely. I’ve been hoping for ages that Andy would come to Amtrak, but as the CEO. Although he might have ended up like a couple of other good Amtrak CEOs—hired, then fired because they cared and were competent and tried to make things better. And then had a locomotive named after...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

That’s a shame. Yes, like many things (in hotels as well as on trains) that made travel feel a bit more classy and elegant, it seems to have disappeared from this utilitarian world we now live in.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

I enlarged the picture and now I see—yes, wood is nice.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Years ago, the Carolinian did have that, and it was wonderful. The cafe car was next to the BC car, and the attendant would come through with a cold drinks cart but would also get you coffee if you wanted. I haven’t been on the Carolinian for a while, but I’m sure that service is long gone. By...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Talking of making sense, I’ve always wondered why the cafe car isn’t put next to Business Class on the Regionals. Essentially, to get your free cup of coffee, you are paying extra to sit at least two cars away from the cafe car and having to walk back with your coffee through a moving train...

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

I’m not sure the red doors in back of the orange chairs would be my design choice, but if they had coffee I could deal with clashing colors.😁 I’ll be there in early May and will see it firsthand and will reserve final judgment til then.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023 Q2)

You are not doing anything wrong. The NYS news stations are reporting that the Adirondack is starting full service again on April 3. The NYS senators have said the same thing. Everyone seems to know except Amtrak itself.

SEPTA King of Prussia (KOP) rail project dead

I agree. The only reason I’ve ever heard for anyone to go to King of Prussia is to go to the mall, and people drive there so they can cart back all the stuff they bought. Much better to use money for projects that benefit people who really need it.

Thank you so much! That actually looks good! More menu items than I was expecting.

Could you post a screenshot of this one, too, if possible?

Two sisters were kicked off Crescent for using the lounge car

No, of course not. But there’s no evidence they were, except from what Amtrak crew say.

Two sisters were kicked off Crescent for using the lounge car

85 and 95 years old? Whatever happened to treating older people with courtesy, respect, understanding, and compassion?

New Fredericksburg, VA member checking in

Yes, Brocks. I almost went to Ashland for a day trip once from FBG, but the Fredericksburg hotel desk clerk said “Oh stay here—there’s so much more to do here!”😁 So it’s still on my list.

    Keystone Corridor discussion

Because they swarm on at NYP, take every seat, and really do get off in Philadelphia—I don’t know why unless it’s for a Phillies-Mets game, which of course isn’t happening on March 19. Maybe some of them coming home from a St. Patrick’s Day weekend? Sundays are particularly bad. I live in...

New Fredericksburg, VA member checking in

Welcome! What a wonderful place to live! Trollopian beat me to it—I was going to ask if you took VRE. I’m in NJ, and my favorite short getaway to the south is to go to Alexandria and Fredericksburg for a few days and watch trains. I especially love sitting on the deck of the restaurant...

My wife is riding DART (Dallas) by herself!

So glad it all worked out well and safely for her.😊

    Current Downeaster discussion

As long as I can get a Whoopie Pie whatever state we’re in, I’m fine.😁 Did the Downeaster have lobster bisque or clam chowder at one point? I don’t see it on the menu now, but seem to recall it being there a few years ago.

Italy's Frecciargento Rail from Bari to Lecce on Tuesday!

That picture of the Amalfi coast shows the travel hassles were all worth it! How incredibly beautiful! Glad you got there eventually and are relaxing in such a beautiful place.

    Booking an Accessible Bedroom

I am so glad the accessible bedroom worked out well for you. You most certainly deserve to use it—don’t feel guilty. Also, you have been so good to your parents helping them travel. You need and deserve to take care of yourself and recharge in comfortable accommodations when the opportunity is...
